He had a great 2025 track season and Worlds was good while not amazing. I do somewhat wonder what’s happened since. Is he going to hit indoors harder than usual this year? Have there been injuries since his time off after Tokyo?
Young was 36th. USA finished 42 points out of 3rd place. One super stud would have had made no difference in the team scores.
Yeah one guy wasn’t enough today. But sub in a healthy Fisher, Mantz, and Hansen and things may have looked different. Such a shame we couldn’t even field a full squad for our home championships.

There was a real race up front. Multiple order changes. Three different countries ended up on the podium.
If Americans were fighting at the top, you’d complain if they cut to show the also-rans from weaker teams.
overall a well executed race by USA. there was no way they were gonna score in the 30's and beat Ethiopia, Kenya, or Uganda. 4th place was the highest finish they were capable of getting and they nailed it. you can say Nico Young had an off day but even if he finished next to Parker Wolfe it wouldn't have changed anything on the team scores.

It does make you wonder if Parker didn't get injured and Grant Fisher would have run what the outcome could've been...kinda two off races back to back for Nico Young (late season or not, it was the same length season for every athlete).
I think Ethiopia cleared Kenya by about 5-10 points. Kenya could’ve stole it but Ethiopias #4 guy closed well while Kenya’s 4 got outkicked by all the guys in the second pack
EDIT: It’s funny to think that the bronze medal guy here is the only one to have a world track medal silver or better and that feels unlikely to change

And Gressier won gold in the 10000m in Tokyo 2025.
Quite surprised that the GB team didn’t bring in any of SIRPOC, Jake Barraclough, Ben Felton (presuming none of them ruled themselves out on moral grounds from going to the States). Think with 2 of those 3 they’d have an outside shout at the podium.
Kiplimo definitely does seem the chosen one to get the first sub 2 marathon at this stage. He just turned on the burners at 8k and it was game over.
Quite interesting to see a lot of the athletes on the men’s and women’s side wearing Nike clothes but Adidas shoes? I’m guessing this is because their nation is sponsored by Nike but individually by Adidas? Kinda ruins the purpose of Nikes aim I’d have thought, makes them look worse than if they were fully garbed in Adidas in some ways
Did anyone else see when a spectator dropped an orange on the course right on the other side of and thankfully no one stepped on it?
I though the coverage wasn’t terrible, they were trying with the drones, wasn’t excellent but some of the drone along the path shots were cool, just didn’t sync them up with the other shots as seamlessly. It’s hard to cover xc.

Adidas athlete getting used in a Nike group. This is getting embarrassing for a guy of his talent. I never thought I would say this, but time for a change!
It does seem like Nico has not been the same since Wolfe and Strand joined Mike Smith’s group. Could be coincidence but makes me wonder if there is an obligation to give best effort to Nike athletes.
I don’t think Nico is changing anything. I bet he becomes a Nike athlete when his contract with Adidas is up in order to stay with Smith. I bet Whitney Morgan will do the same to stay with Coach Taylor. They both seem dedicated to their coaches. It seems like this might hurt their negotiation efforts, though, if Nike already knows how much they love their coach and that relationship depends on them signing with Nike. How does this not take power away from the athletes. I hope that isn’t the case.

I’m skeptical of Aregawi medaling again (and I was referring to Worlds, which I admit is just a quirk of how things have game). Remember the plan was to run a half last spring. He barely raced at all last year (5 times), and might be like Kejelcha and transition to the roads. Even if he doesn’t I don’t have much faith in him to medal in the future.
For as great a runner as Kiplimo is, boy could he not figure it out on the track.
