Our major cities have become unsafe and overridden with crime. This is a result of anti police and pro criminal policies supported by the elected leaders of those cities. by and large part, most Americans want their cities safe. What scares the leadership of one of our parties is, what if this works? DC becomes a model for large cities where you can travel all over the city with your family and feel safe. Then what? Will Americans outside the liberal elites wake up (many have already) I know, I know, crime stats for DC are down slightly. My uncle has weighed 350-375 pounds most of his adult life. He has dropped down to 330 in the last few years (good for him) but he still has a long way to go just like DC and our other major cities
The local DC news keeps stressing the drop in crime. Your analogy is a good one. But since crime is an activity, I would compare it to exercise. If a city's population averages 5 minutes of exercise per day per citizen and increases to 10 minutes per day, it is still nowhere near a healthy amount. But the media would spin it as it is the most exercise they have done in 30 years so why would they need to do more?

Not to mention people report crime less than in the past because they know it won't get prosecuted or the police are too underfunded to even show up in many cases. The incidents of crime are sky high, but reported crime is down due to pro criminal policies. And even then, the amount of crime we have compared to what we should have is ridiculous.
Oklahoma City is a city of comparable size with a similar homicide rate. When’s that federal take over happening?
What don’t you understand about Home Rule?
In 1973, the District was granted self-government (with some exceptions) known as “Home Rule.” One part of this legislation allows the President to declare a “state of emergency” for a period of 30 days. That is what Trump did. Extending beyond 30 days requires an act of Congress. He can’t do this in OKC.
Councilmember Trayon White, who was recently reinstated after a five-month suspension surrounding a federal bribery probe, said President Donald Trump isn’t entirely off base in ordering a federal takeover of the D.C. police...
Does trump just keep doing different sh1t all the time
For no particular reason except to stay relevant
A view from ireland btw 😀
No, he’s following the law and trying to make our capital safe. Nearly everyone in DC supports this action. The people on here complaining are uninformed or just trolls. I say this as someone who has never voted for Trump.
I’ll be in Ireland this summer. Looking forward to it!
This is the greatest country in the world - how can there be any crime anywhere, that only afflicts other countries who are less than we are. Is it surprising the major cities, Washington/DC, have problems? The governing choices are GOP and Dem - neither of which, given the leaders they have been putting forth, have any clue as to how to run the country. That is the problem (thank you American people). But then when the entire system (top to bottom) is corrupt, why is that surprising. That there is low level crime in the streets is to be expected when there is higher level crime (theft) at the highest levels of government (see Trump the grifter), including the SC. Frankly, the entire country needs to be gutted, but since that won't happen, that is the price we will pay. That Trump uses this to score political points, and distract from more important issues, shows how far down the rabbit hole this has gone - that is what we should be wringing our hands about. Neither side has a solution long-term for anything. So much for being the "greatest" country. Canada seems a far more stable country than us - no wonder they don't want to be a part of this American implosion.
Dims love criminals, illegals, terrorists, men in women's spaces, and lockdowns....why is that? Maybe its because Republicans DON'T like criminals, illegals, terrorists, men in women's spaces, and lockdowns.
The goal is to troll here and rage bait yada yada. The truth remains we are in the midst of an authoritarian takeover that is well underway. So troll away, it doesn't change anything

False. He sent national guards to LA a few months ago. Trump can do whatever he wants to in America. Someone may complain, but nobody can do anything about it.
Trump has libs here so triggered that they’re coming out pro crime and are reduced to babbling on about Oklahoma.
It’s not a good look, libs.
This is such a lazy take.
Same posters that were up in arms supporting the Cliven Bundy take over in Nevada are now suddenly big supporters of using the military to enforce martial law.

There is nothing false about his post. Trump cannot do this in Oklahoma City unless there is a threat to Federal buildings/property. Newsom claims that Trump violated several statutes, including the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which prohibits federal military forces from performing domestic law enforcement, and also infringed on the Tenth Amendment regarding state authority, by sending the NG into LA this summer.
The courts will tell us who is in the right, but from what I saw it didn't look like the NG was policing people. That was left to the LAPD. If the NG is there to protect federal buildings/property, it is legit. The courts will decide if they did their job, or if they overstepped their bounds and participated in policing civilians.
But I think there are two things that are more important here:
1. If the LAPD were overwhelmed and the NG came in to help them restore order, most would see that as a good thing. Newsom would rather lose control of his city and watch innocents die in the streets than work across the aisle. Says a lot about him.
2. The whole thing is irrelevant because The Fog is Coming and there is nothing we can do. The Fog is Coming. The Fog is Coming.

I see your point, but do you not see the difference in the Bundy situation and the DC situation? Do the two seem the same to you? Letting cattle feed on public lands vs. violent gangs attacking innocent people in the streets? Do you not see why some people would view them differently?
Personally, I think there is a middle ground here. I think we can all agree on the solution.
At what point does "crime" merit a declaration of a public emergency, the unprecedented seizure of local law enforcement and use of the military to establish domestic order? In what way does overall crime in D.C. rise to level of a natural disaster, a terrorist attack, or out-of-control ongoing riots? What, specifically, needs to happen for this "emergency" to be lifted? Why has this only become an emergency NOW? Even if the crime numbers (which are at 30-year low) are "fake," there has not been any sudden, dramatic increase in crime. It's just a whim! Based on the rationale currently being provided, what prevents this from being used in any city, anywhere, anytime Trump feels like it?
Still waiting for one brave Republican to attempt to answer ANY of these basic questions. Are any of you able to think for yourselves? Give it a try!
26 Pages into this thread and STILL not one, single Trumper moron can answer these basic questions about the objectively authoritarian actions they are supporting.
Instead, what do we get? "Whaddabout COVID?" "Whaddabout defund da Police?" "Democrats just luv da criminals." Complete, total evasion. Intellectual wimps.
We are dealing with a large segment of the population that has no real principles and no independence of thought. Their brains have been nuked into nacho cheese from decades of consuming hate radio, Fox News, and technofascist social media algorithms. Owning the libs is their be all end all.

What level of violent crime do you think is acceptable?
