I’ve watched the build up to WSER videos, and I’m struck by how desperate they seem. Everything is a marketing opportunity, a shot isn’t complete without calling out each brand by name. David says he wants the series to be filmed in the mold of Unbreakable, but the two couldn’t be further apart. Could any of us really imagine Geoff Roes asking us to watch every phase of his treadmill workout while he talks about how he’s going to shock the world and walks us through his gel and hydration mixes by name?
I thought the same exact thing! I just rewatched Unbreakable over the weekend and those dudes couldn't be farther away from Roche. Sure, it shakes things up in the world of ultras but it's so pathetic and embarrassing for him. Imagining any of his competitors or any of the female elites acting this way would garner such backlash or at least some side eye. But I guess if you say "we love you all" enough times it's believed by everyone who has a parasocial relationship with them.
*(based on hypothetical treadmill repeats, snorting The Feed products, numbers he pulled out of the fastest column on a Jack Daniels spreadsheet, and screaming HUZZAH!).
Karl Meltzer warned David about this recently in a non-confrontational way. Of course boy wonder was having none of it.
ya know what? Roche is putting a ton of pressure on himself. That typically does NOT bode well for fine performances. He has the ability to slay it, but the pressure will eventually break down the mind. Hope I'm wrong, it's going to be a good race as always.
