interesting that blanks raced in Nikes and the latest flotrack training video also has him in all Nike gear. Did he give up the NB NIL deal, after all the injuries?
I assume Harvard is a Nike school, so contractually he has to run all his races in Nike gear and do all team-related promotional content in Nike. I've seen some people mention similar things about other runners with NIL deals.
Progression is rarely linear. Look at Gary Martin - finally 13th this year. I think L&L will be fine.
Progression isn’t always linear but you still need to see it as some point or reassess
Well then thank goodness both of the twins have seen tremendous improvement this year. 22:49 and 23:04 are great XC times. Same thing as Colin and many other HS phenoms - it takes time to adjust, especially at a school like Stanford. They will be fine.

He raced in NB last year. Nike didn’t care and didn’t enforce until they lost Valby to NB and Graham went to the Olympics.
No doubt it makes sense to get stronger but I’d take a little issue with the idea that strength was their issue overall. Both guys struggled in a slow NCAA final before USAs. I think they were in trouble either way at the Trials (just another level up). We’ll see where it goes but it sounds like Gary Martin for one is looking at moving up. With Kessler, Nuguse and Hocker in place you gotta be wary of being a strength-based 1500 runner at the moment a la Cooper Teare. On a related note Nathan Green was about 40s back of these guys in 54th, which could translate to some pretty big stuff later in the year.
That's fair I remember at NCAAs and USAs I was crashing out because I thought Strand was running a bad race tactically lol. I see strength as his issue because he has a great kick (4th at NCAA indoors in a slow race, closed in 55s for his 3:35 pb), his 5k times are worse than his 3k times, 13:36 to 7:46, and he hasn't done great at NCAA XC, going 203-63-45, until his 8th place this year. 8th as a 1500m guy is a pretty great performance (Centro's best was 10th), and a huge step up for him. Also he was with the chase pack and willed himself up to his teammate during the last k, which said a lot about his mental toughness to me. The fact that Strand and Murphy were up with so many 13-low runners in 10k XC makes me want to see them race the BU 5k so badly now, because if they're running 13:0x, I'd probably change my tune about them being 1500 guys. You're right that with World Champs Kessler and Hocker, and silver/bronze medalist Nuguse, the strength based 1500 runners in the US are stacked. Next we need some speed based 5k runners.
Gary Martin has struck me as an eventual 5k guy since I first heard of him, which I think was his solo 3:57 mile in HS, although he probably struck me as a 5k guy because he was able to solo a 3:57 mile in HS lol. I don't see Green as a 5k guy at all, but I know he's struggled with injury before, so maybe his 54th is a big sign for him too. Washington's 1500 streak is riding on him this year, and he's got crazy strong competition
Not sure if this was brought up, but did Hilda O impede Pamela K approaching the finish? She hardly took a direct line.
From what I could discern through the distorted ESPN footage, Olemomoi drifted but hardly full Tokyo. Kosgei wasn't having it and eased past her in the end without incident.
I'd like to know what Kosgei said to Lemngole right around 4k in. Maybe something like "You wanna pick it up a bit?" Doris's reaction was slight, if she even responded at all.
I just finished watching the women. The ESPN video sucked.
Hartman should have pushed earlier. I knew that once they got into the last mile if the top 3 were still there that Hartman wouldn’t be able to take them. Hartman is incredibly strong and would have possibly been able to take it if she pushed early. She can run her competition into the ground.
Terrible take. I’m the guy that informed this board what Hartman was to do. She accepted the challenge, and ran excellently. But it is crazy erroneous to you think she is currently at the level of the top 3.

A little after 1k, Hartman settles in, and assesses her competition:

In the latter, critical stages of the race, Hartman strategically controls the inner tangent over her main competitor (McCabe).
Nonetheless, at the beginning of the last drive to the finish line (when the video is cutting out), you can see that McCabe has burst out ahead of Hartman, looking like she could be the winner of the duel. At that point, it looked over.
But Hartman claws back to overtake her before the line, winning the battle by less than two seconds.
As I said in an earlier post on a different thread, I think Hartman has high potential to go under Tuohy’s 15:03 on the track before she leaves NC State.
She is currently a ~15:20 runner. In order to approach 15min, I think she will need to be ~3-5lbs lighter (it’s 2lbs/sec/mile).
But I’m not talking about quick-fix purging. It will take some time for the physical body transformation (like Valby went through) while still maintaining (and improving) strength.

Valby found a cross-training modality that allowed her to do high volumes, hours and hours, of aerobic conditioning that enabled her to figuratively and literally work her arse off, without the pounding of mileage that usually comes with that. Hartman may likely need to do something similar.
Per weather forecast, snow ending by 11pm tonight (Thu) then cloudy and in the high-30s/low-40s through race day. Thus, snow probably will have melted by race time Saturday morning, leaving parts of the course a bit mushy.
Maybe Kosgei's 18:59.1/6k CR will survive, but fully expecting several to be under Valby's 19:17.2 time from last year. Seems like every high quality women's xc race this year has been won in sub-19:20.
Note: Dani Jones/CO won 2018 NCAAs @ Zimmer in 19:42.8. Times have changed.
And, Morgan McDonald's 29:08.3/10k CR from the 2018 NCAA race should be obliterated.
Typing this well into Friday night.
Course dried out today due to the wind at 40 deg temps. No snow. Looks like firm footing throughout. Mid-high 30s w/virtually no wind at race time.
Just based upon last year's results, we know it will be all-out from the gun. The wide open course for the first 500 meters or so before the first turn facilitates quick starts.
Now believe we'll see big course records in both races.
Two things:
(1) It is not atypical for championships to become tactical affairs, because usually no one wants to go out there as a sacrificial pace-setter.
(2) Even though there was hardly any wind, the softened ground made the course slower than at Pre-Nats. The results demonstrate with emphasis what Valby (and Tuohy) accomplished when they went under the old course record in driving rain (at times) on a blustery day when the course was water-logged in places.

Yes - Harvard is given Nike gear, hence the swoosh on their team uniform tops. The teams wore Nike last year too.
