Looks like Biden has declared that he is staying in the race. A bit surprising.
He can say anything he wants, but the pressure on him to step aside, is not going anywhere, and is actually increasing. He clearly is not going to beat Trump and it seems that even if he did, it’s unlikely he can be functional for another four years.
This is shaping up to be a tremendous opportunity for the Ds. This is patriot Biden hanging in there firmly believing he's the only one who can beat Trump, and the Ds coming together to convince him it's time to let go because of his age. There is no shame in this and Harris gets to inherit his campaign $ and record automatically, with his full endorsement. Trump is going to look like the old unhinged convicted felon with no stamina to match the sharper Harris and a reinvigorated D party.
It's pretty clear now that Biden is going to drop out. Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, Jeffries, Schiff, and Raskin are all in the headlines today casting doubt on his candidacy. Top donors are reportedly freaking out. This is clearly a concerted effort. Maybe Biden will tell them to touch grass, but I doubt it.
Since the Dem establishment decided to rob us of a robust primary process to replace Biden and are now going back on the path they chose, it seems like Kamala Harris is the only viable substitute. She at least has received tacit approval from voters as Biden's running mate. Dems can't claim that democracy is at stake and then allow the establishment and its corporate donors to unilaterally pick someone who nobody voted for. (Well, they could, but I can't imagine it would go over very well.)
So it will be Trump vs. Harris. I don't know. Personally, I'll feel better about not having to vote for a person with dementia, but I have no clue if this could give Dems a better chance. Many Americans clearly like voting for people with dementia.
Polls show that since the debate, the number of Democrats and Independents that want him out has grown.
The number of Republicans that want him to stay in has gone up. They absolutely do not want to run against anyone else, no matter how much they will say, "Bring it on."
Biden dropping out is good for the Dems, bad for the GOP, and everyone knows it. There is probably nothing that more Americans agree on in politics today.
A pivot to something like a Harris-Kelly ticket will re-energize the Dems, bring swing states back into play, and send the Trump campaign scrambling for a narrative.

1. Either they KNOW he is gone and they want to be ahead of the game on this or....
2. they just KNOW he is going to lose, so they are the first rats off a sinking ship. After he loses they can say that they were on record stating he should drop out, and so now the loss is all his fault.
Can Jill and Hunter keep the ol man in the game? Only time will tell.
The basic problem for the Dems is that in some states, they already can't get someone else on the ballot except for Biden.
And it's clear that Obama is behind the scenes calling the shots. But every other candidate he might like loses in the polls. Kamala Harris has as bad a public persona as Demented Joe.
So what the Dems need to do is, get Obama elected president again! But that's illegal, you say. 22nd Amendment, right?
But it's actually easy to work around legally, by having Biden pick Obama for VICE president. Then, if Biden is elected, he can resign immediately after inauguration, and then Obama becomes president.
There is no law against this switcheroo trick. It could be done indefinitely. Of course, Biden won't be able to do it again, but in 4 years Obama could have someone else "run for president" on his ticket and get a 4th term.
And this is exactly the same kind of filthy, sneaky backroom politics Dems are known for, and their voting base forgives. They should try it.

In my view it's always been the D's to lose, but key is to be united. So yes, they will have a better chance with Harris assuming they all get behind it. We haven't seen anyone pounding the table saying it has to be Biden. They have instead said it's his decision, so they are clearly ready to back her. If they go through with this they are going to steal trump's show.

damn that's a pretty bad post
if that's all you can say, you might as well admit it's true. If you could disprove it, you would.
There's no legal barrier to being president indefinitely, you admit.

Well, he has a point. Your first sentence was incorrect. It isn't already too late to get Harris on the ballot in the states. They have until the nominee is made official in late August at the convention. If it were already too late, they wouldn't be having this conversation.
Also, Obama has, repeatedly, shown that he is not interested in getting back into power. He's been more interested in paling around with Springsteen and other celebrities than doing anything productive with his political popularity. He wouldn't accept the job if it were offered. It would be extremely controversial/distracting to make him the VP, so Harris/Dems would never make the offer, either. And, most importantly, the Vice President cannot be someone who is constitutionally ineligible to be the president. So there is, in fact, a law against the switcheroo trick you proposed.

It's in the constitution, but I suppose they could go trump-style and just go ahead with it and let the Rs fight it in court, in which case the rigged SCOTUS would confirm it's not allowed anyway. See how valuable that rigged SCOTUS can be?
It's been fun, but there is just too much negative energy here and too many new as$holes who post bullsh*t and lots of great people who used to post all the time who have left or gone underground. I'm out. Life is too short. I'll be in kona. Hope to see some of you there. Paulo knows how to find me

If Kamala Harris is going to be the Democratic nominee then I want to be the Republican nominee! For fuk’s sake (I mean for heaven’s sake) will nobody listen to me?!!

Mikey, you might want to think about that: the only reason trump needed to pick a new veep was that an angry mob tried to kill the previous one (that would be you) at the urging of your boss (that would be trump). It’s not really job security, now, is it?
DJT's speech right now has been great so far. Very calm despite what happened on Saturday. Very uniting.
Mass deportations ? Oh yeah, very uniting. “Deface the Nation?”— unifying! “Crazy Nancy!” — conciliatory! “Biden - I’m not gonna use that name anymore?” — reaching across the aisle!
i’ll grant you this much though: for the few minutes he actually stuck to the script, he sounded almost rational. It must have felt like a relief to get back to spewing hatred to the adoring mob.
Nate Silver as the speech progressed and trump took the convention down the rabbit hole of dumb America.
Nate Silver @NateSilver538 · 9h It's a weird but pretty good speech. The past few weeks have gone about as badly as possible for Democrats, and they're likely underdogs against Trump regardless of who they nominate, but the opportunity to reset the campaign with a non-Biden nominee is a twist of good fortune. Nate Silver @NateSilver538 · 8h Semi-retract this tweet, this speech is boring AF, but there are worse things politically speaking than being boring. Nate Silver @NateSilver538 · 8h Fully RETRACT and RESCIND, sometimes it seems like both parties are trying to throw this election.
