It really is weird tradition. Is it a long history of training with private teams instead of in a national setup?
I think the Jamaicans are taking over for us as the team that's way worse than they should be on relays.
At world relays this year, our men's 4x100 of Courtney Lindsey, Kenny B, Kyree King, and Noah looked pretty smooth. The men's 4x400 team messed up, but only because they wouldn't line up for the exchange the way the officials told them too.
I think they practice exchanges more than they used to because getting onto the relay team is more coveted than it used to be.
Lyles actually really cares about the relay, so they do end up practicing exchanges a little bit more because the alpha wants to.
Anna Hall dates US tennis player Ben Shelton - who earned an Olympic spot, but turned it down, not wanting to upset his summer hard court season leading to the US Open by interrupting it with a tournament on clay. Lots of tennis players are not playing (though to be fair, plenty are and think it's a huge deal) - which underscores that no sport should be in the Olympics if the Olympics isn't the pinnacle achievement in that sport.
So tennis should not be in the olympics because Ben Shelton turns his spot down? Djokovic, Nadal, Alcaraz are all focusing on this years olympics, so who cares what Ben Shelton does.

This is also a really exceptional situation. All the top level players will tell you that there is a transition moving from clay to hard/grass courts, it's a very different challenge, which is why masters of clay like Nadal and Swiatek can dominate. Tennis at the Olympics has generally managed to attract all the top players down the years including Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, the Williams sisters, Murray, Henin, etc. It's not the pinnacle of the sport, but I'd argue that its the most important three set tournament on the calendar for men, more important than Indian Wells and the tour finals.
WOM, I don’t mind him being there, and I don’t mind him being clueless; I do mind that they keep him yakking as one of the favorites ((Bor) takes a headlong crash into the water jump, effectively ending his run and possibly his career.
The guy crossed the finish line and they didn’t even know who he was. Didn’t say his name until way after the race was over. This is why they should do a rundown of everyone who is in the damn race…especially a final. Somehow they get this done in Europe, even down to announcing the local runner in lane 1 of whatever Continental Tour Meet they are at.
NBC just locks in on the favorite/favorites and ignores everybody else to the point that we don’t know who the other competitors are in the race. Also, going to the tape delayed field events and just rambling on about them during an exciting 3K SC is despicable. Especially since they already had a 2 minute commercial break.
Go to All Sports and scroll for Track & Field. They usually have one or two for that day only. 400 Final is there now and for some reason Norman is +300, jumped all over that. Hall is at -165. Weird.
