Not really, how much of racer is he? He literally just followed Girma the entire race and kicked with 100m to go. The steeple finals have been absolutely boring the last 3 years. This should've went before the W 1500m final.
He knows how to be in front at the finish when the medals are on the line. No matter the pace. That's what I mean by great racer.
Amazing from Mageean. Really was up there in contention.
Muir a little teary in the BBC post race interview. Tough year etc but says she’s happy now so she feels like she’d won before she started.
Didn’t Laura and Jenna Reekie abruptly leave Andy young this past year? What the happened there? I read Reekie up and left during training camp there and Laura said she was happy to be away
Think alcohol/controlling issues. Both up and left from South Africa training camp with him- seemed Laura was supporting Reekie. Then Laura said she didn’t want to rush getting a new coach but has had a very mixed season. She does have a coach now (from British athletics I think) and seems happier but not quite back to form.
But still, if that’s the case she ran a tactically poor race for silver!
I feel like I'm living in some sort of parallel universe here... why the eff not put yourself on Kipyegon's shoulder and give yourself a shot at gold? She was not going to blow up at the pace they were running, that's for sure.
Then listen and learn.
The reason why not is because, when Kipyegon inevitably ran away from the helpless field (which happened), Hassan would then idiotically be providing free pacing duties for the rest of the field.
Just edit Kipyegon out of the picture and envision a smart race plan for Hassan. That's what you just saw her execute.
Don't give us a condescending 'duh' without some specifics; pray tell genius, why then is she not running for gold? I'm well aware Kipyegon is the dominant middle distance runner in the world right now, but she's also human. Contract a bit of a stomach bug, have a crappy night of sleep, boom, vulnerable. Your take is just silly.
It's obvious, but since you are either playing dumb or just dumb...
Kipyegon is many, many seconds faster than Hassan this year. 3:49 to 3:56. That is another planet. Do you understand how far apart they are?
Meanwhile, among all remaining competitors Hassan is very competitive. As we just saw.
What is she going to do to "take the race to Kipyegon?" Nothing, except to serve as a free pacer to all of the other also-rans.
She can (and did) race for a medal. Picture the race without Kipyegon in it, any any sensible person will agree Hassan ran very well.
Get it?
To say Hassan should have aimed to beat Kipyegon is like saying Nick Symmonds was too far behind David Rudisha at the bell in London 2012. Simply clueless take.
I am very very far from dumb, you condescending jerk. The point I am making is Kipyegon is also human, and subject to stomach bugs, crappy nights of sleep, the whole gamut of stuff that HUMANS are subject to, and to which no one is immune. I also pointed out I'm well aware of how fast Kipyegon is. The point which I've tried repeatedly to make and which you completely ignore is SHE DIDN'T EVEN GIVE HERSELF A SHOT! Get on Kipyegon's shoulder, at the pace they were running it doesn't cost her anything extra. If she does this at the very least that bronze turns into silver, and if for whatever reason Kipyegon is suffering from something and not at her best, perhaps even a shot at gold. Good lord, you're the dumb one here, not me.

Hopefully Hassan will respond to that question shortly.
What's particularly strange is that Hassan ran the semi with good tactics. Hassan went to the front early and would have had a fighting chance off the last turn if that has been how the final played out. She would have lost to Faith, but still. Why did she move up early and lead the semi and not do the same in the final off a slower pace? If not lead, just tuck in for 2nd or 3rd after the first 400. Maybe she was too gassed and just couldn't?
While at least he did hit the front, he needed to push a lap earlier or two probably. Once El bakkali survived the penultimate 200 it was over. It was still a strong move as you saw how much it destroyed the rest of the field.
I was being mean spirited, but Girma will never beat El Bakkali when it matters. He is not that much faster, if at all, even in a perfectly set up wr race and he can't close with him over the last lap off of really any pace. If Gold is the goal, then Girma should change his event focus. Even though he has run 3:29 for 1500, I don't think his prospects are any better in the longer track distances races either. No shame is being a world record holder and perpetual silver medalist I guess. Beamish will likely never be strong enough to medal, but man, he can close, so in a weird way, he might be an eventual gold medal threat.
Girma isn't that much faster, and I also felt like El Bakkali was maintaining significantly more speed over the barriers late in the race, when regaining your momentum over each of the barriers is going to hurt so much more.

that's not an argument for being at the back of the pack. Place yourself in 3rd position then
NVM seems to be on and off right now. Kind of surprised it's crashing. Can there really be that much traffic? A good sign in a way, if that's the case
They made a press statement before the championships saying they expected 1 billion (!!) people to watch it (presumably they mean across the nine days). Olympics gets approx 3 bil if I remember rightly. As far as the website goes, I'd imagine the figures/% accessing online increase quite rapidly year upon year.
WA site is back up. Rooks came in 10th, 8:20.02. Beamish as people said came in 5th. 8:13.46. That's a new PR? Wow, he really could be in it for a global bronze.
El Bakkali really the successor to Kemboi whereas Girma is like Shaheen. No matter how fast the latter can run in flat events or WR attempts take the guy with the wicked kick.
This is an incredibly stupid post.
You know that the WR holder Shaheen BEAT KEMBOI in BOTH the 2005 WC, right?
He won every global steeple he ever entered. (Barred from the Olympics.)
Shaheen was both the WR holder and a racer. Girma is no Shaheen.
Kenya vs "The Traitor". A very weird race.Follow me on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/GoldenAgeOfDistanceRunning?fref=nfhttp://www.goldenageofdistanceru...
Said Saaeed Shaheen (Qatar), before Cerono (Kenya), world record holder in 3000m steeple won the World Champion Steeple in Helsinki 2005.Con la participació...

Pacing duties? No, Hassan would have been paced by Faith. Yes, in the last 200 Faith would have pulled away, but Hassan would have been right on the rail in great position at the close and no, she is no Faith, but no slouch. Hassan would have been much more likely to get silver having run a shorter last lap with far less distance to make up. At the end of the day, it's not such a big deal. When you are a titan of the sport like Hassan, getting a bronze or silver in this 1500 is not really going to make much difference in terms of your overall legacy at this point.
But still, if that’s the case she ran a tactically poor race for silver!

I’m not even saying she ran for silver dude. I was saying that your “What was she running for if not gold, fitness? A tempo run?” comment was willfully obtuse. Regardless of whether not she believed she could beat Kipyegon, we’re in agreement that she should have been on Kipyegon’s shoulder at the bell.
