We here in Australia are willing to sacrifice our freedom and liberty for the greater good of the community.
So yes, freedom of religion, freedom of association and freedom to gather should all be restricted for the foreseeable future until community transmission is 0 or next to 0. Also, those who have Covid and refuse to quarantine should absolutely be forcefully put into quarantine camps in order to stop Covid from spreading uncontrollably.
Also, and this may shock the softer Americans, but freedom of speech should be restricted for the foreseeable future. We can’t let anti-lockdown or anti-vaccine misinformation be spread and thus indirectly cause the virus to spread.
When dealing with a virus like Covid the state must legitimately be ready to use all weapons in its arsenal to stop the spread. We can roll back the state after Covid is completely eradicated.
All US Military personnel should be withdrawn from Australia immediately.
Exactly. All US Military personnel should be withdrawn from every country

Yes, F off...stop using our land as a training ground and as a basis for 'presence' against China.
On a brighter note, NSW has now reached 80% 1st dose, 49% fully vaxxed, with a 3 to 6 week lag between dose 1 and 2. The local govt area (LGA) I am in, (250 sqkm) is amongst those with over 90% 1st dose.
We are now also including 12-15 yr old, and later when approved I imagine the lower ages.
The rest of Australia is slightly behind.
I don't believe anywhere in the world are close to those figures, a wonderful example of , as my respected eldest brother in another country puts it "where the law is respected and applied, 'without fear, favour or prejudice". They wish their govt., renowned for corruption, would listen as ours does.
There has been little push from govt. other than the collective will of people telling it what to do, and the goal of being able to shortly dine, play etc with and amongst other vaccinated people.
Our agenda, the govt works for us to implement the control, because the lunatic fringe (in the absolute minority from those figures) would create anarchy and take away the freedom of majority.

If that's what the people in Canberra want, then who are we to argue?

Can't even believe that is reality. Americans would go absolutely berserk. Probably just form roving pariah posses, armed, roaming the streets unimpeded by the police.
Wouldn't be a pretty situation.

Why are you so concerned, when the people of Canberra aren't. They are not in jail. Most of them are bureaucrats and office workers, there is no industry. Parliament is sitting, the press are are in the press box.
In fact I am travelling down there next week to work at the University for a day, then back home. Just protocol to follow, no chain and monitor on my ankle.

So it’s finally happened.
These reoccurring lockdowns in Australia have become the “new normal” and the man on the street has thrown up their hands to say “well it is what it is”.
I want to go on record to say I called it. If citizens give power to their government as willingly as the Australians gave power to their government over the past year it’s very rare for the government to then give that power back in any timely manner. A year from now you will still be seeing the same on and off lockdowns & covid restrictions in Australia.

Lol... Australia cant even host a simple cross country race well over year after the vacines were first introduced. Whats even more pathetic is the locals actually thinking this is a good performance.
I am happy to admit that my quid pro quo with getting vaccinated was that at some point (which according to the government talk was when x% was fully vaccinated - so that day hasn't come yet, but is approaching), that I am left alone and free to go about my life. I don't want check ins, I don't want passports, just leave me alone.
There are probably many more like me and the problems will come if the government doesn't hold up to their end of the bargain.
Article from earlier today.
The anti lockdown protestors seem to becoming more angry and violent as the lockdown persists.

I encourage everyone to read the article but if you don’t feel like reading just watch the two short live action videos attached to articles. Australians mean business.

Yep, and the police have promised to 'go harder', without pre empting tactics and number deployed
The unions have distanced themselves from these monkeys
On Monday, riot police were called in to disperse a group of about 500 protesters, who threw bottles at the Victorian CFMEU construction secretary, John Setka, and smashed the office’s door down.
Setka said the protesters were not all CFMEU members and blamed “neo-Nazis and rightwing extremists” for hijacking the event.
Morons should be locked up

Were the Nazis against lockdowns as well?
It seems anytime someone sees a protest they disagree more and more they simply label the protesters Nazis or white supremacists. Anti-lockdown? Nazi. Want less government incursion into your personal life? Obviously a white nationalist.

Well, that could have been a throwaway line, but according to a person monitoring message platforms (not sure what her job was called) they were comprised of a disparate group ranging from simply 'anti authority', 'anti vax', conspiracy believers, hijacking the minimal construction workers who are anti lockdown.
The unions have totally distanced themselves, fact is that the unions support the lockdowns (more specifically the safety rules for working) and vaccination for a full opening.
The overwhelming majority of people do as well
cheers

what is it with you and your concern for us and not your own hopeless situation. No matter how many times I have said that the government in fact are not pro lockdown, they do not want a down turn in economy. However the people who hold power of election over them simply do not want a health problem. You may disagree , and many do on a scale, sometimes I too think , maybe 'do this instead' or 'do that', but this is what the majority wants, so we are all in it together.
We are close to 85% firts dose, and 80% full vaxxed is now a given, and we will be 'living with it from there'.
And yes, we will still be the best performing economy in the world.
cheers

'The people of Germany' ? Really? Did they? Or was it the nazis of nazi Germany?
You are actually supporting my view, but thanks Godwin
