Actually, it is calculated over the period in question. In this case, that period is one month - hence the phrase "zero last month" used by "well put". Note the emphasis very graciously added just for you, Sally.

So you have a basket of goods and for October 2022 that basket of goods cost so much. In October of 2023 that basket of goods was 5% more expensive. So the inflation for Oct. 2023 is 5%. Come November 2022 that basket of goods which had cost so much in Oct. 2022 had slightly increased. BUT though the price of the goods in the basket had slightly increased from Oct. 2022 to Nov 2022, the change from Nov. to 2022 to Nov. 2023 had miraculously increased by that same 5%. So the inflation for Nov. 2023 was 5% just like the inflation for Oct. 2022. So you had inflation of 5% for both Oct. 2023 AND for Nov. 2023. So to say that Nov. had ZERO inflation is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy wrong. You need to say this 100 times. There was no ZERO inflation for November. NOW, the RATE of inflation from Oct. 2023 to Nov. 2023 was zero. In both months the inflation was 5%. Got it now?!?

You aren't owed sh!t from me. I have NEVER said that the jobs created during Biden's Presidency had anything to do with what he has done. In fact, I said the opposite...that ANYONE in office now...meaning even if Trump had won, would have similar numbers...and the reason is that the US President has next to no control over the economics in the country...The Fed has more power there than the President does. I have said MANY times that the economy in the US today...and every day since Biden won, is the result of the pandemic. The high inflation we had was the result of that. The falling inflation we have had is the result of moving further away from that. EVERYTHING that we have in the US right now is the result of the pandemic, including the still very low unemployment rate because the pandemic kept immigrants from coming here...immigrants this country NEEDS to be its best economically.
I have EVEN called Biden's Inflation Reduction Act poorly named, because there is NOTHING in there that has made inflation go down. Great stuff in there, but it's all long-term stuff that didn't affect the high inflation rate one bit.
AND, because nothing that Biden has done has had an immediate effect on the economy doesn't mean that what he's done hasn't been good...he has improved benefits for veterans. He got the CHIPs Act passed which will be huge going forward. He pulled us out of the autocrat fire by beating Trump. He just hasn't done anything that has impacted inflation one way or the other or jobs one way or the other. He DID prioritize getting shots in arms when he first was in office, and Trump likely wouldn't have done that, so some positive things have happened maybe a LITTLE faster than they would have if Trump had won, but it's negligible at best,
