Thanks for the civil responses (mostly, anyway, calling someone naive can be an ad hominem). I got the data I was originally after.
In answer to some of the points raised, I used the 'Trump will make himself dictator for life' line because it's what is currently being put out there (see Liz Cheney).
If you would rather I ask whether I think he could push the power of the presidency beyond its intended limits, the answer is yes--but not in the way you think. The power of the presidency (in my opinion) has gone way past what it is supposed to be for a long time. The congress and senate have failed to assert their own power, so it continues. What I think Trump could do is not out of line with many recent presidents. Executive orders, using military force in de facto wars without congressional approval, execution (drone strikes, etc.) that may be extrajudicial. That stuff should be reined in no matter who is president.
I very much value our system of government.
The respondents seem to universally lean to the left on this one, so (to conclude/change the topic a bit) I hope that you raise your voices when there is talk of packing the Supreme Court (as there was when the outcome didn't go the way pro-abortion folks wanted), when there is talk about modifying things to take power from small states (the 'why do they have 2 senators?' question), trying to pretend that the Constitution is living document when there is an amendment process if it needs to be updated or changed, or even when the left wants to change procedure in the house (get rid of the filibuster) to get the outcome they want. Also, the stuff that I mentioned (governance by executive order, etc.).
Finally, it's possible for Trump to be bad and his opponent to be worse.
