I think you are partaking in Republican numbers that make you feel better.
You're hanging your hopes on polls that are being taken about hypothetical matchups over 1.5 years from now.
Let's take a look back about 16 months before the 2016 election. A FOX NEWS poll had Clinton beating Tump 51-34. For the next few months following that, all polls showed Clinton winning by more than +10 points. It only tightened up after Trump campaigned and people heard the real policies that the candidates were running on.
Believe me, once America hears whatever the democratic candidate is standing for, the votes will turn towards Trump.
Why should we believe you over the polls that are rarely wrong? Trumpers still doing victory laps and refusing to acknowledge 2016 was statistically a real one off. We need to see how the Democratic side looks before we can make any meaningful predictions. I only know what I see from GOP side so far - Trump is trying to desperately tighten his grip on the base and the party is very supportive. However, a bet on divisive politics isn’t likely to boost the % that supports him. He will be lucky if he can get most of them back to the booths. You are really nuts if you think he is gaining any more votes in 2020 with his approach. Just like I’d be really nuts if I somehow thought most trumpers would abandon him even if there was evidence he is a Russian asset or had murdered someone. It is really only a question of how much his vote will get watered down and whether the Dems can produce a charismatic candidate and not bungle up their primaries again.
Any efforts to convince democrats that Trump is good for the country won’t stick. Most Dems were turned off by him from the start and even if they believed he meant well there is no way he has carried almost any of his decisions out in a manner that is effective, constructive, or that shows he has any level of competence.
Example - immigration, so he wants to enforce our laws and “fix” the issue, yet we saw a totally bungled up separation chaos affecting thousands of children, a lack of urgency in the last two years on this from him and the GOP showing just how much they really believe it’s a problem, and a lack of credible ideas on how to fix the problems... and certainly zero ideas on how to address the 11-12m undocumented people actually living within the borders.
