A coup does not require the military. Trump was trying to use the mob to intimidate congress into throwing the election back to the states or have the House decide the president. That's also a coup.
But true that Trump did refuse to order the national guard to the capital and Pence had to do it in the end. Which tells you trump didn't have the military on his side. But he tried - he got Milley to walk with him on his walk to a church during civil disobedience. Milley had to apologize for being used as a prop by an authoritarian president.
And many think tuberville is trying to keep military appointments free for trump in 2025.
