Also, Ben was working minimum wage in a coffee shop before he became a ShoeTuber - his lifestyle is way better now.

Interestingly, he does have a degree; however, he possesses none of the skills you'd want to see in a graduate (e.g., analytical ability) . He's a victim of the over expansion of universities.

People forgetting they probably make loads of money off instagram/tiktok etc and not just YouTube. Gabriel Smith was able to pack in his big 4 accounting job in London before even starting the YouTube channel (although he does do coaching unlike Ben) after only doing short form content.

Direct money from Tiktok and Insta is very low (e.g., $100 for 1million views). However, I think the real money is the reach and selling ability relatively niche influencers can have.

There are people with under 20k - 30k followers who use their instagram accounts to sell coaching services. When you get into the 100k + territory that Phily and Ben is shilling occupy brands may well be paying $5k for a sponsored post and a series of supporting shorts - easy money!

That was about her prize money. Influencer contracts with brands all have non-disclosure agreements. Influencers make way more than people think.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kofuzi was getting $10-25k a sponsored post and if the value of his deal with Runna is well into the six figures. We will never know though because that deal almost certainly has a NDA. But Kofuzi will put out his end of year video saying he made $50k from Ad Sense revenues on his Channel, which is pretty misleading IMO.

Is Runna lighting cash on fire with this? Absolutely. But the deal helped them close a $100 million acquisition and exit, so they got what they wanted.

My mind is blown - just learnt that Nick Bester managed to go sub 2:20 for a marathon without a coach! That’s so impressive for a self coached athlete.

Surprisingly, Kofuzi is no longer using a Runna plan now that he's not getting paid by Runna. True testament to the effectiveness of the Runna app.

Another point on how much the UK runfluencers make - dan jones (who does more cycling content tbf) made £170k in 20 months which is about £100k a year

He is such an amazing storyteller and seems like a great guy and real friend.

I mean Strava shouldn't have paid $100 million for that app. I think they're following the Meta model of buying companies which could be a threat to them. But this is a sensible business decision from them. Influencer marketing is lighting money on fire and brings back echoes of the late 90s.

Grandma's marathoning video was secondhand embarrassment from start to finish. He spent the entire video trying to prove how the marathon was just a walk in the park for him. Chatting 'casually' and almost running backwards at times just to make sure everyone watching knew it was effortless for him. Throwing motivational quotes at his friend to make sure they’d keep going. How can he be so annoying?

And finally, a return to the family, just to make sure everyone knows how cool of a dad he is and how, in the end, family is what matters most. The most pathetic nonsense ever?

the thing is, they are making some money, but not most of their money, from ad-sense. The bulk of the income comes from sponsored videos, and TAS and Allie-O doesn't post a video if it doesn't have a sponsor. Then you have sponsored instagram posts, and sponsored short content, and the yearly contract she clearly has with LMNT, and her contract with oiselle (and nnormal before that). Then there's the podcast, and the regular ad spots on THAT, and then of course ad-sense, and if either of them runs well, price money, and so it goes.

the amount of glazing on floberg's new video (and all of them for that matter) is insane. i realize maybe myself and others here are more cynical people than normal..but i truly do not understand how so many people are obsessed with their favorite runfluencer and write such mushy comments sucking up to them and saying they just put out the most epic video in the world. it's borderline scary how attached people are to floberg, philly, ben, etc. to each their own but like...IATA or are the fans of these youtubers probably a bit off themselves and not normal lol..? its probably me but man i cannot get over what some people comment on these videos as if their lives have been changed by a normal person filming themselves at a race
