trump will never pay a serious penalty for his crimes, never.
the idiots will just say 'trump has full immunity for all official acts' and that will be that.
but for centuries his name will be used as an example of a country gone mad and a great republic abandoning its principles in thrall to a charismatic demagogue.
Most of his acts are not official; they are not needed to be the president.
Like I said, it will be decades before we fully discover who paid what to whom with each of Trump's decisions. There are far too many corrupt actions to keep track of.
But rest assured, it is all about money and power. Trump does nothing on principle.
Follow the money is a great concept, but a very difficult concept to execute in an authoritarian regime where any opposition has no power to do so.
If Trump actually was authoritarian he’d 100% shut down all protests against him and would cancel elections (remind you of anyone? Like a certain Ukrainian leader?). He didn’t.
I'm not sure the "If Trump was an authoritarian he'd be worse" angle is all that impressive but you go girl.

Article 83 of the Ukrainian Constitution suspends elections during states of emergency or martial law. Do you want Zelensky to violate The Constitution?

He’s doing what he can with the FCC to shut down media that criticizes him. He’s such a coward.
22 States do not want to send their SNAP data to the Trump Administration to verify immigration status. 21 of the 22 have Democrat Governors. Now why do you think they are resisting? Because the fraud in the SNAP data is staggering. Illegals are getting it. Millions of them
So, I guess that we can be happy that there is still SOME confidential journalism possible with this administration. Because, no doubt, you'd get fired if anyone knew that you said anything other than, "Yes, of course I knew all about it, and it was powerful and strong announcement by our Deer Leader !!!"
My takeaway is that I can't see how we became OK with our President announcing the he is closing air space over another country to start bombing and killing people and now learning that it was just him making stuff up and sh!tposting on his social media app.
And this is our new normal.
It seems that there is now at least one, "I can't see how we became OK with _______" per day.

At the risk of getting into an unnecessary semantics discussion.....I always find it a little odd, annoying, something, when people call Trump "charismatic." If you had half a brain/conscience, and you heard someone talk about some "charismatic leader" who you don't know, would you picture someone ANYTHING LIKE Donald Trump? I wouldn't think so.
Trump aside, if you saw anyone speaking to you - in public or private - and it was immediately obvious that they were ignorant and/or dishonest and/or badly self-promoting, would you then describe that person as "charismatic" ?
I guess that "charisma" is in the eye of the beholder. But we sure don't owe it to Donny to label him as (broadly) charismatic. In fact, he's anything but to a decent human being.

Of course:
1) We have a SCOTUS who would decide that pretty much anything and everything was official.
2) Worse, it's more than bad enough if it ONLY applies to actually-official things. He "officially" commands the armed forces. He can - and apparently has - commanded the armed forces to commit murder. Similar to the SEAL Team 6 example used in court. Immune.
If Trump actually was authoritarian he’d 100% shut down all protests against him and would cancel elections (remind you of anyone? Like a certain Ukrainian leader?). He didn’t.

That's a way too kind. The original post was analogous to, "If Hitler really hated the Jews, he would have started gassing them en masse in '38....."

Do you remember in Trumps SCOTUS immunity hearing oral arguments? There was a hypothetical about if the President wanted to use Seal Team 6 to execute his political opponents what would stop them?
It was argued that scenario could never play out because the military have a sworn duty to not obey unlawful orders.
And here we are!
Seal Team 6 are executing people.
And Trump is threatening to execute people that publicly remind the troops they do not obey unlawful orders.

The SCOTUS ruling on Presidential immunity was not only unconstitutional, but it will prove to be the worst ruling this country has ever seen. It was brought out at the time, that a lawful, normal president would have no use for it. But an unlawful president would abuse it in ways we could not imagine.
So the country decided to put a mentally damaged lifetime criminal who tried to overthrow democracy back in office to find out.
Murica!

Will there be a "winter of severe illness and death" for the unvaccinated?
Legitimate question IMO. And it looks like the answer is "maybe."
Australia had its worst flu season on record and the season started abnormally early. The season in Oz is usually a guide to the following one in the Northern Hemisphere, but NOTE: 1) Though infection rates were very high, it didn't appear that the major strain(s) of virus in Australia caused more severe disease. 2) BUT "Australia . . . did not face the same mutated H3N2 we have" in the Northern Hemisphere this year. (There was a sudden mutation in the summer.)
Now, this year's available flu vaccine was not formulated based on the mutated H3 strain. The vaccine should still afford some protection, and all the public health services are urging its use. Because this strain has an apparent R of ~1.4, it's going to spread fast--particularly among the unvaccinated, yes, but a good many of the vaccinated will contract it too.
There don't yet seem to be good numbers re the mortality/lethality/whatever-the-term-is of this strain, and the numbers won't be clearer until into the new year.
TL, DR:The flu will probably infect a lot of people this winter--many more than usual--but it's not clear whether death rates among those infected will be elevated or roughly normal.
[Full disclosure: In1997 I was terribly sickened by the flu and I haven't missed a flu shot since. Also haven't had the flu since, as near as I can tell, but if the R is really 1.4 I'd expect to get it--maybe on the subway, maybe from my students. I'd hope it's no worse than RSV, which hit me hard for a few days last winter.]
"why do they call us fascists and say we hate the law??? it's not fair. We just want to kill whoever we want, when we want, where we want, no matter what laws and norms say! is that so bad??? stop calling us names!"

Obama ordered drone strikes like no president ever did before. And I don't think anyone complained since we want to kill terrorists at no risk to Americans. And to quote Hegseth, "We have only just begun to kill narco-terrorists."
"There were ten times more air strikes in the covert war on terror during President Barack Obama’s presidency than under his predecessor, George W. Bush. Obama embraced the US drone programme, overseeing more strikes in his first year than Bush carried out during his entire presidency. A total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen during Obama’s two terms, compared to 57 strikes under Bush. Between 384 and 807 civilians were killed in those countries, according to reports logged by the Bureau."
