Open borders is not an option and merely a distraction. Migrants keep coming because we give them work. And they are allowed to work because they are a cheap supply of labor for employers. America likes that because it's profitable and aligns with capitalistic views. If there was a serious desire to prevent illegal migration, we'd have strict state and federal laws preventing their employment. Neither Ds nor Rs want that. Floridian farm owners and logistics bosses just had a taste of the economic carnage caused when Meatball Ron tried to block migrant workers. There is political emotion and then there is reality...

If South Americans voted Republican there would be mobs of blue hairs throwing rocks at the people swimming the Rio Grande and the Biden Administration would be laying mines and digging machine gun pits behind the 200 foot wall they built on the border.
Crime is down from the 'summer of love' levels but still far higher than 2019, let alone 2016. Of course Portland won't have high rates of violent crime, but its rates of petty crime (that mostly goes unreported) are off the charts.
I grew up outside of San Francisco in a Democrat suburb (though not an insanely woke one). I'm tired of seeing what woke policies have done to my home city and home state. How is it more "tolerant" to let drug addicts constantly shoot up / do drugs in the open and ruin their lives instead of jailing them?
Obviously SF will have lower violent crime than Oakland, but crime has gone up and it feels unsafe when I visit back home. Not good for economic growth and recovery!
