I’m a complete nobody who’s going to spend the next 3+ years probably feeling bad about not doing enough of the TINY amount of stuff that I could do to help my country.
WHERE THE HELL are the former presidents in using their not-meaningless prominence to help save their country??
Obama- a little bit of public push back
Bush- Coward
Clinton - Epstein liability problems
To be fair: Since he left office, GWB has been pretty consistent in avoiding the spotlight; and, as far as I know, Bill Clinton is not a well man. (And we know about Biden, of course.)
Obama has been getting out some. TBH I wonder about his health, too: He's younger than all those other guys (not that young: 64 now), but the smoking could catch up with him.
Everyone knows that unless Russia or Ukraine implodes - both unlikely to happen - their war will end where the front lines are now. The details will have to be worked out, but that's what's going to happen.
A normal politician will have trouble pushing UKR to accept that. Because UKR is the wronged party and we all want to make things right. We want UKR to get its stolen land back and we want bad RU to lose what they stole.
But trump has no knowledge of morality or history or an interest in doing the right thing, so his general 'just shake things up until a solution is found' is probably the best one.
Scare both sides into finding a face-saving solution they can live with. Trump's 'I'm a crazy man so don't expect me to follow any rules' actually sort of works in situations like this.
Or at least has a chance to work, vs another 5 years of trench warfare.

Shake shake shake
Same with Gaza. Trump's peace strategy is unorthodox but gets results.
a little, but not as much
Israel was pretty much done there. How many more buildings could it turn to powder? How long did it want to occupy very hostile territory? It was clear that ISR would never completely destroy Hamas so they wanted out. That war had run its course. And since it was so one-sided, only ISR had to agree to something, not both sides.
Who would possibly recharge this case? I know Trump has some dirty lawyers for sure..
But after both of these cases have been obliterated as historic level legal garbage, who would sign over their career for a 2nd go around?
Power, or even the proximity to power, can be very enticing.
As a NYC lawyer, I'm about four levels below Todd Blanche and we did not mix in the same circles, but he was very well respected among NY attorneys. After his unsuccessful criminal defense of President Trump in 2024, he might have chosen to stay in private practice...but that siren call of a major gummint job, even if serving Trump, was too attractive.
I give down votes to several people here without even reading their posts.
Sorry to hear it. Almost every one of my "automatic no" posters comes up with a valid (IMO) point every now and then.
Sure, I block them if they use a registered handle, and I generally skip past one or two trolls who are unregistered, but still.
If nothing else, reading some of their posts (whether trollage or not) gives me a little insight into the thinking of tens of millions of my fellow Americans.

As a lawyer, do you think Halogen is secretly breathing a sigh of relief? I can't imagine how much more humiliating this case would have been for her if she ever got to trial and had to go up against Fitzgerald etc. And had to have each piece of her supposed evidence ripped apart.

What Putin is doing is he is arming mercenaries and allowing them to move into stolen over homes and businesses. It is up to them to defend those from the rightful owners. This is how NuttyYahoo does it in Israel. Settlers steal homes and are given the right to defend the stolen home from the rightful owners.

I read an interesting description of the appearance of trumpers out of the woodwork...
if you are a normal american and appreciate law and order, progress, honestly, honorable fellers, you have a tolerance for non-white people and gays, you are comfortable here.
if you do not go along with those characteristics, if you chafe at gay cupcakes or whatnot, you just put your head down and don't say anything. You are unhappy about the way the country is going, but you keep it to yourself, because you will be shunned by city society if you really don't like gays or immigrants.
So you don't know who these people are. Some say that in cities, if you don't know someone's politics...that means they are conservative or trumpers.
So now they are coming out, so to speak. They were always there, but putting their heads down and grumbling.
Power, or even the proximity to power, can be very enticing.

I have to think that she's relieved to be shut of this stuff, yes.
Well, maybe not completely shut: She may be facing some disciplinary/ethics actions. Among other things, an attorney who realizes she cannot handle a case competently is supposed to refuse the case--or to leave it once it's underway, if she then realizes that she's out of her depth. And Halligan had plenty of chances to realize that.
I'm not going to denigrate insurance defense, her previous gig: It can involve some very complex points of law, and apparently she was good at it. But that experience doesn't equip one to be the top prosecutor in a really major district like EDVA.
Some commentary I'm seeing says that Judge Namadorf can still rule on the other motions to dismiss. But I still don't get how it's possible if the Judge Currie ruling dismissed the Indictment and the case is now over (subject to appeal). I think every other Comey motion is automatically denied as moot and without discussion. I guess we'll find out.
“I’m grateful that the court ended the case against me, which was a prosecution based on malevolence and incompetence and a reflection of what the Department of Justice has become under Donald Trump, which is heartbreaking,”
This is what a real LEADER sounds like when they make a statement.

Sleepy Joe weaponized the injustice department to pursue a ton of lawfare against Trump. They knew they couldn't beat Trump legitimately, which is why they sic'ed the government on him and tried to physically kill him as well.

You are incapable of understanding that there’s overwhelming evidence of Trump’s crimes which merited legitimate prosecution. You can’t understand that because you swallow everything he says without a second thought.

Could Comey and James sue Hallharans and the DOJ for unlawful prosecution?
