Nothing in the article impugns the entire city of Beaverton, or every employee at Nike. The video was accompanied by a text story and vetted by the editors of what is probably the most respected paper in the nation. It was also plainly labeled as an opinion piece. There is nothing wrong with this woman pointing out the abuses piled on her.

Getting in before LRC makes this a closed thread, etc.

1. Nike will probably have to pull out of the Olympics if this goes viral.

2. If all past NOP athletes get retroactively banned from PED use during AS time, Cain will not be tarnished.

3. Some other competitor of Nike will gain big popularity in light of these events.

A.S. was wrong on the diuretics. But Cain is bias, playing the snowflake victim card & wrong on all else.

In 2009 when it was revealed Tiger Woods loved the "golden shower" and they still kept him on board , I new I found my future employer.

Because Cain describes Alberto as a monster. Caitlin describes him as an amazing supportive coach. Jordan Hasay and others have expressed similar positive feelings towards Alberto.

What do you mean by saying that the head coach of the NOP was "wrong" in his approach to diuretics, but Cain has no case to make? Her testimony is based on the idea that the coaches encouraged her to embrace training methods that led to physical and emotional damage, resulting in suicidal tendencies.

I can't think of a much better example to use as proof, than world-renowned coach encouraging his teenage athlete to start using diuretics in an effort to purge weight, then publicly berating her in front of other athletes for not getting with the program.

It is also mildly humorous to see people's responses. Really? He had all these athletes who wanted to work with him, but he had no success? He has olympic and world champions. He demanded complete and utter obedience to his methods. Yes, I am doing to discuss what dedication is required of sport and specifically his group. Spare me the nonsense that defies logic. If he was simply abusive and manipulative, he would have no athletes. Are there better coaches? Of course. But for some, he got them to the pinnacle of the sport. Is Belicheck warm and fuzzy? He has people who swear by him and a list of washouts. Salazar seems to have that same track record. To act like he has no good relationships or results denies reality.

What does it mean "he wanted to give me birth control pills and diuretics?" Did he offer her pills and she accepted? Did he offer her pills and she declined? Did he never actually offer her any pills?

I'm just curious what the actual facts are because her statement is entirely unclear. Maybe she can clear this up in her next interview.

You would be surprised how wrong you are above in many cases as it pertains to this site (maybe there are some cases regarding personal attacks that people respond to). But I can assure you, there is a band of anti-Nike shills on this website and that is clear as I have monitored it carefully and some of it does come from within.

I don't get the outrage aimed solely at Salazar here. There are many DI programs operate the same way from what I've heard from female friends. Hell, even at the DIII level, I knew two girls on my team who had eating disorders because they were trying to lose weight to be faster. At the professional level where track races can be won or lost in fractions of a second, its really not hard to see why many will do everything they can.

Hell, remember Coburn a few years back? When she got married, she publicly said she was gaining weight for the wedding because she knew her race weight wasn't healthy.

Interestingly, she was trying to rejoin NOP as recently as April of this year.

Happy to continue with the ad hominem attacks. You don't get to claim that you know posters are "not shills", then defend the practice of posting unregistered . Registering as a user on these boards is the lowest form of accountability, and you and your Nike Shill buddies can't seem to take those simple steps. So go on claiming that you know these posters are not shills while shielding yourself from sharing information with the mods on these boards. I guess they can comb through the site's access logs for your posting timestamps and IP if they ever need to, but it's not really worth the time.

Cain is not alone in describing Alberto as physically and emotionally abusive. Hell, look at the way he's treated people like Kara Goucher, Lopez Lomong, Dathan Ritzenhein, and Steve Magness. That's the low hanging fruit. But no, we have to pull up an old article from 2013 to refute Cain coming forward today. Pathetic. Here are a few dissenting accounts just in case you forgot them:

You can choose to believe Caitlin, or Dathan, or Steve, or Mary. Ultimately that's up to you, but an old article from Chock does not invalidate Mary Cain's story, and there is no need to "reconcile" the two accounts. If anything, the manipulative coach that supports one athlete while tearing down another is very on-brand for AlSal.
