This is why they should have seperate men's/women's Ironman races.

Worth noting too, if you pause the video just as Blair comes in to sight he has three maybe four strides, a second or less, to respond to someone backing in to his path and not knowing if they're going to stop, keep going backwards or move forwards, very hard to anticipate when fresh let alone fatigued and going flat out.

I can't believe there are 25 pages of posts about a non-event between 2 oblivious triathletes.

If only the Warren Commission had scrutinized the Kennedy assassination film so closely.

You have to take the post with a sense of humor. It is parody, if you don't get it.

That said, she (and the RD and her blog buds) fed some misinformation on the interwebs.

I have to wonder, from their end (lady, RD, husband), WTF was the point of all this? The lengths they went through to smear this guy's name, the blog post, the false accusations made by the RD that the dude punched her in the face, leaving bruising, etc. Then the releasing of the video, which IMO made them only look more narcissistic, and like people with way too much time on their hands. All this drama over a minor collision that probably happens in just about ever single race across the country on any given weekend.

I have another gripe with her post. Her and her friend, in their blogs, both seem to emphasize that this guys was an elite. Then in her post on her friends blog she makes the following remarks :

"According to the Commissioner of the USAT and most of the NORMAL people who COMPETE in these races, stopping to high five a friend, kiss a family member or take a photo are par for the course. The NORMAL people are what keep these races alive."

" I do these races for very different reasons than you do, and according the USAT, I am with the MAJORITY."

First off, if you're competing, you are NOT going to stop to chat up friends or take a photo.

Second, this type of incident isn't exclusive to an elite and hobbyist. It could have easily been two hobbyists colliding. So I'm not sure what classifying herself as a NORMAL person does to excuse her actions. And what does her being part of the MAJORITY have to do with the incident? People with this mentality and manipulative language drive me nuts!

The majority does not blindly back across the racecourse. That would be a disaster.

I also was one of those saying he was in the wrong, but after seeing this video & pics of her running across the finish line with all those kids I've changed my mind.

I bet she is one of those women who claim to be "strong" & "independent". But when someone gives them a little shove they quickly turn to blogs & crying out for help & look for sympathy. Come on lady, I thought you were strong.

Clearly you weren't there or watching closely.

-The video shows our White Knight veering from the center of the road towards his maiden, not the other way as your pretty diagram suggests.

-The woman was plainly walking backwards at a diagonal (not straight back) and at a very controlled and regular speed (not erratic). In fact, her diagonal is closer to being parallel to the road than perpendicular.

-Either there wasn't a mass of participants (unless you count the single geriatric that meanders by halfway through the vid) on the other side of the road or they weren't moving since the video continues for 6-8 seconds after the contact with no 'mass' of people that appeared. In that amount of time you would expect a gap of 25ish meters of room to maneuver.

On top of all of that, their bodies were never close enough to warrant an arm bar. He had plenty of room even at both of their current trajectories (certainly if he hadn't begun drifting towards her for no apparent reason, let along drifted the opposite direction) to just blast on by at 7:30 pace with no contact. But he's special. Someone dared take the race less seriously than he and he just had to make a point. Probably time for some anger management when you're clearly hitting a woman intentionally for your podunk little race.
