Tim Gundy and Bob Luder were very good runners and nice guys. The team also had Leonard Martin a very good 800m runner from Lawrence KS and Dwight St. Clair from Kansas City. Very good runners and nice guys as well. Training at KU was very tough but it seemed to work for the guys on the team. Not a distance runner but at the time Deon Hogan and many long sprinters were very good. Deon was incredible in setting a WR indoor 440 record at Allen Field House during an intrasquad meet. KU had some football players who would run the relays after football season was over. The school had some amazing athletes walking around campus.

There are a few guys who aren't on the high school lists who have done pretty well lately - all of these time are from the last two years

Reid Buchanan - Manhattan High 6a - 13:27/27:58 - US Cross Country team for PanAm

Zach Zarda - Maranatha Academy 2a - 13:42/28:35 - 8:38 for 2 miles indoor

Chris Melgares - Manhattan High 6a - 2:16:35 2nd or third fastest Kansan maybe at marathon?

Joe Moore - Clay Center High 4a - 1:03:20/2:17:27 - a couple of US teams in XC

Evan Landes - Mulvane 4a - 2:17:08

James Wilson - Abilene 4a - 2:17:27 - 18:15 for 4 miles - First American to win Trolley Run in KC in a long time

All of these guys are fairly young too - except Moore who just turned 36

What happened to dave houchin. Wichita south. Anchored south to 2 mile relay and distance medle relay gold . also Won the 2 mile open kansas relays. 1970

Hi. Did not do much at UT. Half of the team were state champs. I was all seč 3 times. The travel was all over the country. Very thankful. Winter 6 miles every morning pair off.

Bob Luder was my host on my recruiting visit. Took me drinking at West Coast Saloon. I signed.

Hello...just came across this old post and since I was actually competing at FHSU from 1984-1988 thought I could add some facts. Former Coach Joe Fisher did Not destroy or throw out any performance list of records when he left FHSU after the 1987 Track Season. My Senior Year 1988 Track Season the top 10 lists were still there...our 1988 National Champion 2-Mile relay was going after both indoor and outdoor records and we followed our progress on the Top10 lists....Joe was an easy scapegoat for the athletic department to use when they transitioned to Division II...they still put down the “old” NAIA days to the superior NCAA-II. All due to ignorance and arrogance...I have worked tirelessly for 30 years trying to get the correct performance list re-instated...but they only want the D-II recognition. The Athletic Department wouldn’t even assist getting John Mason inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame...So I and some former teammates completed all necessary documentation to finally make that happen.

All these years later and NOTC Hall of famer, who bad mouthed NOTC everyday, still has the steeplechase record at Kansas.
