I'm usually a celebrate good performances & condemn the second you know something is up but this feels truly unbelievable... 2:09, 10th overall. Nothing in her past that would suggest something like this. Going out in 1:04 & hanging on is crazy. Thought we were heading to a 2:13-2:15 blow up but she picked it up with a late 4:4x. Weather today was good but not great. ~60 degrees & low-50s dew point. Some wind. That would indicate a 2:08 type performance with slightly better conditions. I really find it hard to believe that's where the women's WR is at with perfect conditions. She had a pacer with her the whole way but that shouldn't be enough for something this good. Half WR is 1:02-high. That's worth 2:11s. Again, this is a big improvement on that & this isn't a 1:02 runner (I guess 1:04 now).
If any Kenyan was going to run 2.09 its her
Remember that she was the Fmr Half WR holder (64 flat)
And has consistently been in the top 3 of most marathons shes entered
She also has the proclivity of being a gutsy runner who goes for it every time
Heck when hassan ran 2.13 she dropped her b4 she blew up to a 2.15.
Sure she blows up sometime but when she's good shes a GOAT level marathoner
Her career progression is also more acceptable than the fmr WR holder and at 29 is at the peak of her extra ordinary career
LRC: "64:16 is the fifth-fastest half-marathon performance ever by a woman. It would have been the women’s world record as recently as 2021."
Seeing above made the final time seem "worse." The half has become a pretty deep event in the last few decades. The all-time list shouldn't be very soft. So, to run the 5th fastest time ever on the way?
At least we will get a 12-part instagram post about what was against her this time
I believe part of it must be the aspect of the choice to train solo, whether it's cause or effect. Rare is the individual who can consistently put out best efforts without being consistently pushed/pulled by peers in training. More than sharing a coach, this is an aspect shared between Bates and Fauble that contributes to performance outcomes. Bates lives in the same area as Obiri and Kiplagat, who are known to train together. Bates lives in the same area as Lindsay Flanagan, even sharing a sponsor. Tagging along with them a couple times per week for tougher efforts could be far more valuable than even choice of coach.
I think it was (a visibly struggling) Panning the first time they showed the American leader.
There may have been confusion because they were wearing the same kit and have short hair.
And sometimes the announcers have to deal with surprisingly small monitors and glare. If the feed had showed the American men prior to mile 20, maybe he would have been more familiar with them.
Look, everybody at the top of professional sports uses some type of drugs. We cannot do anything about it and it won't change. So learn to appreciate this inhuman performances.

Even doped it's an amazing performance, but yeah if you want me to believe it's clean then you'd have to release your biological passport data.

The old school guys, Rodgers and Shorter, ran mostly alone and put up 2:10s on 💩 shoes.
She's blown up before. Maybe that's the type of personality you need to run this. Kinda crazy.
Read a book about racing mentality recently, and the message about runners like that was: if you full send enough times, eventually one of them will stick.
Can you tell me the title, please? Thanks in advance.
