So suddenly all these guys come out with " I have nothing to do with Nedd, blah blah blah..." but you miserable bitter boomers, you so and so that have no life excvept knocking a good bloke raising millions, Yeah , look at him ,,,,and stop ripping into the timing system we got that doesn't report anything, when you merely counted laps and sat in trees to spot cheats. This is how it is done these days on Tiktok, don't worry we will let the hordes of faithful in for the last day to kneel at his feet, we cant have him distracted by boomers who want to catch him out.

Around 7 days 6 hours and 14 minutes. Great performance unfortunately it will be not recognized for multiple issues like pacing. Somebody mentioned on tiktok that he even forgot to do a lap in a specific lane in his overly complicated "Master lap" system.

Now it's just 195 k per day to get Yiannis Kouros' record. It should be a breeze.

Such a shame for Nedd it won’t be recognised given it was only live streamed to a million people rather than the good old days when those pesky marshalls were hiding in trees every 50kms.

Nedd's trailing Yiannis through 1000km by 34 hours.....and there's absolutely no shame in that. Yiannis made generations of runners look mediocre.

Yiannis' 1000km split when he ran the 1000 Mile WR was 5 days 20 hours 13 minutes 40 seconds. Nedd just ran 7 days 6 hours 14 minutes. That's just over 34 hours.

Yiannis' 6 day split was about 1028.938 km was about 168 km up on Nedd.

If only we had accurate records from races back then. ;-)

That's a horrible start to the second half. 122 miles in 43 hours, yikes. And resting now for the foreseeable.

Eric "the Eel" Moussambani is a very interesting comparison because he actually improved massively after his Olympic appearance.

In Sydney, Moussambani had only recently learned to swim. He barely got through the race, and finished with a time of 1:52.72. For comparison, the World Record at the time was 47.84; it is now 46.40.

But! It seems like he kept training and improved massively over the next 4 years. I see various sources saying he had swum either 57 or 56.9 by Athens, but I couldn't find a video or official results. He tried to compete in Athens 2004, but had visa issues and couldn't. 57 is not close to world class, but it's a "serious swimmer" time. Swimming is so technique-based that it's very rare to swim such a time after learning to swim as an adult. There's no real running equivalent since running is so talent-based in comparison, so think of an adult language-learner who after 4 years speaks fluently with barely any accent.

I even found a reputable source (below) which claimed that Moussambani continued to swim after 2004, and ended up with a PB of 52.16! That's around what the best women swim, and could very well be the fastest time in history for anyone who learned to swim as an adult. I have not found any other confirmation of this swim, and it certainly *sounds* too good to be true.

Moussambani has also put a lot of time into building the swimming infrastructure in Equatorial Guinea. Again, hard to find specifics, but suffice it to say that if even most of the above is true, then comparing anyone to Eric the Eel should be highly flattering!

Will, you're not presenting that data in the most easily understandable format, especially with a lack of units or explanation. It took me several postings to understand what you're presenting.

Neither am I convinced of the relevance of tracking how quickly Nedd has to run to break Yiannis' record, since we know that ship sailed the moment the starting gun sounded.

Instead, we can look at this way: Nedd reached the 1000km in 7 days 6 hours (11pm local time) at an average of 138km/24 hours. (Sorry, it's late and I can't be bothered with km/h or mph).

From the 1000km, he still has 609km to run. To finish the 1000 miles in the following times requires:

11 days 23 hours (Brian Smith's Aussie record) - 130km/day

12 days - 128km/day

12 days 14 hours (Sandra Barwick's AustAsian record) - 114km/day

13 days - 106km/day

14 days - 90km/day

Since passing 500 miles, Nedd's run 196km in 43 hours at 109km/day. From where he is now, if he finishes within 48 hours of Yiannis' 10 days 10 hours, it would be an exceptional effort. Certainly, any finish deserves praise.

As a reference point, Yiannis ran his last 609km at 133km/day.

Ta, I thought 1000 off 250 spoke for itself, but he needed 1000 miles off 250 hours at 4mph, and now needs 378 off 74 at 5.11mph.

It's just a demonstration of how sharply the rate climbs, the moment he fatigues and slows down. It was all well and good running for 3 days at 100, but that last tranche took 23:30.

His original video is funny, "15 hours a day... 19 hours... it doesn't matter, it's gonna get done."

Both of those numbers were absurd. 15 an obvious impossibility, 19 not enough rest.

Heading for about 70 miles for day 8 I reckon - although he'd need to get his spurs on soon, as he is currently 27 miles in 9:45. Ouch.

This challenge was always going to be about the second half.
