Not really, how much of racer is he? He literally just followed Girma the entire race and kicked with 100m to go. The steeple finals have been absolutely boring the last 3 years. This should've went before the W 1500m final.
El Bakkali really the successor to Kemboi whereas Girma is like Shaheen. No matter how fast the latter can run in flat events or WR attempts take the guy with the wicked kick.
I don't like this USA coverage. They talked about Kenneth Rooks and didn't even show any placings beyond 3rd. And even 3rd, it was a spoken, oh by the way, Kenyan guy who fell got back into it.
I do think Beamish could have helped my predictions contest by putting himself more in it around 3-4 laps left, but he's doing great if he came in 5th. Like maybe he's run 4-5 of these?
But still, if that’s the case she ran a tactically poor race for silver!
I feel like I'm living in some sort of parallel universe here... why the eff not put yourself on Kipyegon's shoulder and give yourself a shot at gold? She was not going to blow up at the pace they were running, that's for sure.
Heat.
I'm not buying that she went into the race target a specific medal. She isn't saying, "I'm running for silver."
I think it was, "What is the best, safest way to finish as high as possible?" That's risk averse, but she did just have a pretty terrible experience in the 10,000.
She ran like her plan was to be coming forward at the end, to have the least effect from the heat, and to see how far forward she could get. If anyone was going to melt and crash and be taken out on a wheelchair, it wasn't going to be her.
She moved up enough to medal. Maybe an earlier move gets one place better. But the collapse never came ahead of her that would put gold in play.
El Bakkali just too good. That was not much different than Faith versus the field in the 1500. Girma, time to hit the roads....Beamish for a bronze in Paris!!
While at least he did hit the front, he needed to push a lap earlier or two probably. Once El bakkali survived the penultimate 200 it was over. It was still a strong move as you saw how much it destroyed the rest of the field.
I was being mean spirited, but Girma will never beat El Bakkali when it matters. He is not that much faster, if at all, even in a perfectly set up wr race and he can't close with him over the last lap off of really any pace. If Gold is the goal, then Girma should change his event focus. Even though he has run 3:29 for 1500, I don't think his prospects are any better in the longer track distances races either. No shame is being a world record holder and perpetual silver medalist I guess. Beamish will likely never be strong enough to medal, but man, he can close, so in a weird way, he might be an eventual gold medal threat.

Hopefully Hassan will respond to that question shortly.
Falling over after a hamstring tear at speed is not "getting your butt kicked" genius.
SMH....only weak POS have excuses for why they lost. He lost....period. Dead Last! Doesn't matter if by an inch or a mile. So what he pulled up....whose fault is that? His. He lost.
As for sprinting I have won tons of races and coached folks at every level included the World Championships.
Nobody wants to hear an excuse, especially when they are awarding titles.
So according to "you" falling on your face isn't getting your butt kicked? Check the results.
We all know Gardner is a former world an Olympic champion, but he got his ass kicked today.
The initial comment was a made up BS stat. He didn't finish, so he took dead f'ing last place. Period.
Hahaha you obviously haven't done anything in the sprints.
When a sprinter goes down, no competitor except Donovan Bailey stands over them and says "ha, I beat you by infinity minutes!"
They take the W gracefully, but know it was due to DNF. That's what the real athletes are doing with Gardiner today.

Gotta hand it to Kara Goucher: she called this race perfectly.

well yeah, technically he was at the bottom...think another also DNF'd, so would say I agree that this would count against any winning streak.
I would disagree that a fall or injury constitutes an ass kicking. An ass kicking to me is when someone gets beaten badly in a race with no excuses...just my opinion
