Chep leading might have been trying to do what Bekele did in 2003, forcing a 6:09 6 laps, but nowhere near as fast. El G sure couldn't have drank water or waved at the crowd at that pace. Jacob just did what El G did in 2003, grind out the pace from 2 laps out, but he had a much easier time since there is no future god marathoner to outkick him.
