Trump is just the symptom of a disease called right wing authoritarianism mixed with Christian nationalism flavoring that Fox and others have created over 20 years. If Trump died tomorrow the right would embrace a fill in. DeSantis wanted to be that guy but they don’t want a Fake Elvis while real Elvis still is available.

I'd add that Trump is the symptom of a disease of lack of civics education. A democracy will not last if it it unable to spot charlatan authoritarians like Trump. The framers put in place the electoral college to stop people like trump but the electoral college won't do that. It's up to us, and if we don't teach our kids how to vote smartly, our democracy will fail.
