The original Norwegian Hobby Jogger has just started training for his first marathon too btw, gonna be interesting to see his take on this. First session was a 6x2.5km at what's probably his current M pace.
No definitely not. If anything, the 1600 repeats probably are the ones that I have noticed have been the most common to creep up to the 6/10 range. 1k repeats I would probably look to run around 3:10/km now on average (obviously variable due to wind conditions, some laps slower, some faster on out and backs). It doesn't sound like much slower, but with a minute rest that is significantly easier than my 10k pace (3:03 ish)
