Many GOP members of Congress have admitted to people like Cheney and Romney that they think Trump is disgusting and repulsive. The same for Faux News anchors like Carlson and Ingram.

They were not affected by Trump's "charisma."

My point is not that charisma is not a force in the world. My point is that I find it extraordinary that anyone could find Trump (or Hitler) to be charismatic. If I met either of these men in person I would find it difficult to avoid laughing out loud at them. To me, they are buffoons and clowns, not charismatic men.

How about you? Do you find them to be charismatic yourself? Or do you simply conclude that they must be charismatic since so many millions are enthralled with them, even though they seem absurd, childish and pathetic to you?

I had to reread the definition of charisma as it deals with political leaders. It certainly is a match to the dynamics around Trumpism and why he can be so amoral and awful and people will not quit him.

I have a friend that was at an event at Trump Doral a few years ago and met Trump. He isn't a right winger or even political in nature. But he talks about it like he met a huge celebrity. Like it made an impact on him. This is what I find confusing. I can't listen to the guy for 30 seconds without disgust at the lies and narcissism. Evidently some people are so enthralled with him that when they get into a room with him they become influenced to the point that they will gladly ruin their lives for him. And the count of people that have ruined their lives for him is huge and growing daily. And the ruining of their lives doesn't even register as a problem with supporters at all. They side with the guy that corrupts people and turn on those that had their lives ruined by him.

Quite the phenomenon.

Like you, I can't listen to Trump for more than 30 seconds before feeling bad about humanity in general and my brain in particular.

I did watch season one of the apprentice and liked his screentime there. I could understand some of the appeal. Of course that was 20-years-ago Trump. He's lost a lot of brains since then. And in general I always admired how Trump was a survivor in NYC real estate, for 50+ years. Not easy to do in an industry that most blow up in eventually. Now I understand he was cheating and stealing to survive so long, so that piece is not so impressive anymore.

No politician in our lifetimes has had such a magnetic appeal to his voters. No one. that's saying a lot.

this new speaker tried to shred the constitution more than once. Sure, he wanted to overturn an election and keep a right winger in the WH despite losing the presidential election.

Also, he's for a state religion, which the constitution bans: He wants to use state money to teach christian fundamentalism in the public schools.

No one thought Hitler was charismatic.
