Or, when you look at the ostensible concerns raised by Speaker Johnson, there could have been a more transparent discussion about what steps were necessary prior to the release of the info and a clear timeline for proceeding, with assurances of proper protocol. Bondi hinted at such things in the spring, but the overall tack of the administration is what it tends to be with the president: deflect, deny, lie, change the story. Rinse and repeat. Change the story again, blame the other guys. Claim victory. Every single time, it’s a foregone conclusion in the same way his club golf championships are, … except in the White House it usually involves stuff that matters.

A realistic understanding that things will never be perfect (or even nearly so) does not have to involve a resignation about such things. There are always levels of better and worse, and I consider it everybody’s duty to strive for the “better” part and to demand it of others.
Because the President has a demonstrated history of lying more and more brazenly than any other politician, every political victory he has achieved has done more to embolden the worst behavior of every other politician. And you can clearly see that in the way that the Democratic Party is worse today than it was in 2015 and Republican Party is worse today than it was in 2015. That, as much as anything else, is the president’s legacy.
Trump couldn’t even stop the Epstein files. He’s not getting the Constitution amended and he’s not going to get to become Speaker of the House and have the new President and VP resign to get him back into the presidency. He’s a lame duck.
