McConnell does. it's a kinsley gaffe. he revealed that he knows GOPers are a small minority, and that if more people voted, it would give the dems more power. He's not against a holiday on any sort of economic belief...it's just to keep the numbers of voters low.

Back to the point.

The Trumpers work so hard to defend Trump. Paying $4 per hour is perfectly fine. Forcing you to work 84 hours per week is normal if you want a job in the construction industry. Hiring illegals is not big deal. Not paying someone is to be expected. Nothing illegal about any of what Trump did.

As a Democrat, what is your specific objection to having election day a national holiday?

I like the idea but it has drawbacks.

For one, it would become a shopping day and retailers would make more people work, ironically.

National holidays only have to be followed by federal agencies.

My current company allows two hours paid time off to vote on election day.

We do need to encourage and enable higher voter turnout somehow.

I've proposed the idea of a tax credit for those who vote. Even if they vote none of the above.

(the exact opposite of the old poll tax days)

The "I Voted" sticker isn't quite enough of an incentive.

This would be ridiculous. I'm all for INFORMED people voting because they value the importance of voting. I don't want people being PAID to vote. This incentivizes people who do not value voting and who are not educated voters to vote. Not good for democracy.

We can reduce barriers to voting - absentee, early voting, etc. However, we don't need to encourage higher voter turnout just to increase the % of eligible voters voting.

Is there something stopping them from voting absentee? Early voting? Holiday isn't going to help.

If you actually owned a business you would know that trash pickup does not occur on National Holidays.

Strongly agree.

Make it easy to vote. But if someone needs incentives to vote (or penalties for not voting) then we are not going to do ourselves (or "democracy) any favors by somehow getting them to vote.

Actually many would. Many companies will also give their employees a pick of national holidays to take off if they do not offer all of them, so a person could pick that one in that case. It would encourage more people to vote. I'm not sure how many more, but it would do that. Also, by making it a national holiday, it puts voting more on the minds of people, and that in and of itself would lead to more voting. More voting hurts Republicans.
