Cragg and Shalane taking off. Taylor chasing. Saras been dropped. Looks like Goucher in the distance in 5th

This is a fascinating move. Pennel is a very strong runner, but what's the strategy here?
Ritz is gone, no?
this course looks like a nightmare, with this move being made the field got strung out and it is a jumble of men, women, bikes and camera cars
Can't see Ritz in the pack right now looks like he has been dropped.

Did you ever see him run?
Doesn't matter. He's totally anal about form as a coach. Some people on these boards speculate that it may be hurting Mary Cain. He policed Ritz's form down to the positions of his thumbs while running.

After the 25k in 1:18:55, Pennel takes off even more and opens up a 4-5 second lead. Pack is breaking up. Rupp in 2nd, Meb 3rd, Ritz 13th.

Going to have a lot of ground to make up in 80 degree weather
My pick Pennel! to the lead. Of course NBC missed this break, too

Um, TV time?
Rupp certification process continues apace.
Slower runners on a lap course -- this is going to be a cluster.
New tracking site is much better: http://rtrt.me/latrials
Don't agree that Pennel has to lead from now on, think this is just to open things up. Wouldn't mind seeing him make the team though, quality runner.
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
