Put me squarely on team “she must be doping.” The shoes have made a big difference but I think we’re talking turning 2:15-2:17 into 2:12-2:14; 2:09:56 is on another planet. On top of finishing 10th overall, she won the women’s race by 7:36, practically a mile and a half. After one of the Kenyan 28:xx road 10k women was just busted, I’m not buying it.
Totally aware that she ran a 64:02 in Istanbul a few years ago and has run some crazy splits and impressive marathons before. Doesn’t make this much more believable.
literally the same reaction of anyone who has ever set a WR at every single distance
if you're dropping dead across the line it's not going to be one of your best performances, that's just how physiology works
Yeah, there are good reasons to be skeptical, but being able to celebrate isn't one of them. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug
And other than getting in a stride or two with the flag, she was real wobbly after the finish and did a lot of standing around and feeling her leg and such. Not like an NCAA xc meet where they drag people by their feet, but she looked more tired than most pro finishers out there. Obviously doesn't prove anything one way or the other, but as far as post-race finishes go this wasn't that crazy.
If Kipchoge's sub 2:00 doesn't count because of the pacers going the whole way.why does this sub 2:10 count when pacers were used the entire distance?
He swapped pacers. that said it would mean it is easier for woman on a relative basis since by definition no man can pace the world record the entire way.
The pacers for Chepngetich started with her and stayed with her until they couldn't anymore, so it's legal for her. Because it's easier for the top women to have people around them than top men, World Athletics has women's only WRs as well for road races where the women have to start separately from the men.

While I’m speculating, I’d like to note that Daniel Ebenyo’s entire progression and range of personal bests seems exactly what you’d expect from a clean athlete. 12:54-26:57 (in hot weather, definitely good for faster at his best)-26:58 road-59:04-and now a solid 2:06:04 debut. While 2 of the Kenyans who beat him today were happily posing for a photo with him post race he was doubled over and feeling his legs like “Owww.”

Hasn’t she had supershoes for her entire career? Supershoes no longer explain big improvements.

I think "she must be doping" is somewhat unfair but its one of (perhaps the) most suspiciously fast races ever. I'd say it may be quite likely but I never like to say someone is definitely cheating only based on race performance + did she just start doping or doping more to get this performance? She's been great for years but this is the outlier, more surprising that Kiptum's run last year I'd say
She is Rosa management and we know they have far from a clean reputation, I think she trains in Ngong but I don't know much about her set-up there
