Ha! I am sure some are talking about these cretins. I am more interested in what CU could do for the next generation, College age and younger runners. You know, grow the sport.

I am still waiting on the answer why Casey Malone deserves to lead CU's track and field program. Since when does mediocracy become the main stay for the top spot, or does everyone think Casey won't be a "boat rocker" and just be a yes man to the AD.

You had me until "retain the great Sprint Coach Brock". Did they score a point in sprints at Pac-12?

That group also represented themselves at Nationals and the Olympic Trials.

Given the limited scholarships for the Sprints & Hurdles group, he did a pretty damn good job.

What CU needs is an effective director-administrator to balance the program. That's why the Malones would be a good choice. They have history with the program and they are a known entity for the AD. Moving into a new conference is not the time for a wholesale overhaul nor taking a flyer on a gunslinger like Brosnan and hoping for the best.

Hire a director for stability. Then, snag a distance coach (with an Associate Head Coach title) to build a strong XC program for the future. No one expects CU to beat OK State and BYU this coming year. It was time for a change after some scandal plus many present and former Buffs describing Wetmore as "checked out" in recent times. He's owed a debt of gratitude, but it was past time for him to retire.

Good points. But don’t underestimate Brosnan. He would do a great job. Especially if CU wants to be on the podium again. I just think it’s crazy to say stability is getting the CU mojo back. Your plan would help CU reach mediocrity

Judging the field and track performances of the non-distance coaches at CU is rash. Unless someone has first-hand knowledge of scholarship allotments per event area, we don't know the type of support (or lack thereof) these coaches have experienced.

How many times on LR have we read about distance coaches not producing - and justifying the reason for this as not having the funding to do so? Many people on here seem to give a pass for that reasoning (justifiably so), but when its a sprint/hurdle/field event coach in a distance-dominated program we are quick to judge their coaching a mediocre.

I do remember somewhere weeks ago on this topic someone posted that it would be announced soon... but crickets. That tells me they've got nothing (very likely) or they have someone coaching Olympic athletes and cannot make an announcement for a few more weeks.

Reminds me a little bit of two years ago when we had to wait until after Worlds then things started moving again on the carousel.

I know a coach who got the same msg posted above who has P4/G6 assistant and small school head coaching experience with solid successes. If they are passing on that type of experience then they may either (a) have a very good candidate ready to go but can't yet announce or (b) the decision-makers may not be unified in their hiring/program direction.

I suppose a 3rd alternative could be this coach was inadvertently passed over (and others...), which could have happened if the application screener(s) were given narrow parameters to initially vet. If so, and they have offered to their preferred candidates and its been turned down, they may be kicking themselves for sending out 'thanks but no thanks' to some coaches prematurely.

So, let me get this straight. Malone has done nothing since being at CU for a decade in the throwing events (people probably did not know what events he actually coached). Yet he will be the best coach? I think you are delusional. Prime will have some say as most footballers like to participate in T&F.
