trump's political strategy is to create a base of 1/3 of voters and keep them happy. That's it. This shutdown is doing that.

why do you think he said on national tv 'blame me for the shutdown - I'm happy to do it for national security' or something like that? he knew it would play well with the red hats.

he doesn't care about overall popularity - not relevant to him. The m@gas will get him through the primary and keep congress filled with trumpers.

I disagree tho - I mean the lead stories for the last 3 weeks have been all shutdown. That's the definition of a distraction. Mueller stories would have been lead stories otherwise.

I think you missed my point. Mueller stories don't matter right now.

But without the shutdown, they wouldn't be able to lift the Deripaska sanctions. Right now, nobody is paying attention and congress is too busy with the shutdown to do anything about it.

The best way to end the shutdown is by comprismise. President Trump is smart to not declare a national emergency. A wall would not completely solve the issue but it would help deter and slow down the flow of illegal immigrants coming into this country.

The border is a complex issue. Illegal immigrants and Drug smugglers have all different kinds of means to get across the border. A wall is not the only thing it needs.

I hope President Trump decides to have a deal to drop the price of funding for a wall but to also put in place technology enhancements to help Border Patrol and ICE. Give those two agencies an upgrade to help carry out the full duties of their job. Be up to date with technology and catch up to the illegal immigrants who have taken advantage of the system.

Democrats are very disturbing in that their seems to be no priority in securing our border whatsoever. I am vehemently against their approach.

People like this poster are completely unaware that Dems have been adequately funding border security for decades, Obama deported more people than any president before him, and Dems want a wall everywhere it is appropriate.

A local news station in San Diego said CNN asked them to do a story on the wall - but CNN lost interest after seeing the Border Patrol Agents in it confirm that it works. Sooo... CNN had the chance to be helpful in ending the shutdown, but chose to be biased instead.
