Sadly I think Ben Felton is starting to fall into that trap. Two `shakeout' run events on the Friday and Saturday before the London Marathon then a massive bomb. He would have been better from a running point of view staying away from people and focussing on his last-minute preparations. But I do appreciate he has a living to make from this which will compromise his running progress.
Andy, has anyone ever asked you why you pull a gormless face on your video thumbnails? Do you do it because you think it encourages people to click on the videos? Or is there another reason?
it's definitely better than the thousands of thumbnails of fordy runs with a sh*t eating grin on his face pointing at the camera
or holding up 2 or 3 fingers because it's a mega-insightful video on 2 tips to get pregnant while running a local 5k or 3 shoes i've made out with
Google Adsense has been really tanking for me. If you're not like Kofuzi and not getting 40,000-60,000 + views on a "shoe review video" for all the brands....then you gotta do paid product promotions to make any sort of money in this game. Don't even get me started on how he screwed over Higher Running for apparent Runna money.
I made less than $10k in Google Adsense money last year.....my medical bills in 2023 were way higher than that (pulmonary embolism complications requiring more health testing). I honestly don't know how very many "influencers" can make a living just doing product reviews and ads in VLOGs basically. I'd think you'd be surprised how many fall back on other $$ savings (from parents or a trust fund or a former high paying job or a spouse/partner). For me I have other coaching gigs and sponsored athlete support to work at for other income streams. But the standard of living in some of these areas (nicer parts of Colorado, Flagstaff, London, Chamonix etc) is not cheap....
It's not like this is a big secret that this video is an "entire ad"..... I'm quite blatant that this is an "ad that is sponsored content and paid product promotion" and I always do all the disclosures for paid/sponsored content. Selling a $140 pillow is tough! I'd honestly rather do eBikes and HoverAir drones....
You seem to assume Floberg, or for that manner 90% of running YouTubers have any idea what they're doing.
What they do, the way they train, is not about getting faster but about clicks and shilling
True. But I think Floberg at least really wants this sub 2:30 and isn’t consciously prioritizing his influencer “career” over it. He’s just making some poor decisions.
I want sub 2:30, a lot of people want sub 2:30. That means nothing.
He doesn't know how to get 2:30, he hasn't got the running intelligence to train or race for a 2:30.
The day he signed up with BPN he threw away any credibility. That was the point he consciously put his influencer life ahead of anything else.
He is sucking as much money out of running as he can. The poor saps who are paying him $120 a month or whatever it is for coaching are the real losers here

I'm here for an ad collaboration between you and the Greatest of All Time, Still the Original Running YouTuber (I know, you predated him but it's my nickname for Seth) on HoverAir drones.

I actually think he will go sub 2:30 at some point.
somebody needs to remember to revisit this post at that point
The cult BPN with thinking they could ‘pause’ a last backyard ultra is hysterical. Last man standing until you give the two guys running it multiple hours while you leave your ranch because of a storm.

I dont unserstand how anyone would want to attend these, at least if you are at the slower end of the pack. Chances are you end up running faster and further than what you should the day before a marathon.

Personally I have zero issues with good products being advertised and honest reviews of stuff. Just don't tell me that AG1 is gonna change my life.
Sage, here's an idea for you! You and the mad scientist are both struggling for views and both seem a bit lost at the moment - running wise. We all loved the drama of your little strava beef a few years ago, when you were trading local segment / fkts. So now seems like the perfect time for a collab!
Pick any peak in Colorado. 1 on 1 race to the top, filmed the whole way. first half of the video on his channel with a nice little 'to be continued...' for maximum drama. Second half on your channel.

strange guy. could have been a half decent runner but always insists on training above what he’s ready for. he’s been unlucky but mostly he’s just dumb. has wasted what talent he had.
Nic and the MTC setup have to feature somewhere in there too. Seems the group is setup to put athletes in a sink or swim situation, and Joel has ended up sinking every time.
I don't really listen to FKT anymore as I mainly tuned in for Brett, but the original "Road to Nowhere" series on inside running is still in my podcast rotation.
He does these soft races against a load of hobby joggers and wins by almost a minute. Turns up in huge Oakley’s when the sky is completely grey. Has his photo with adoring fans dressed in full kit with his name all over it.
