Dude. the ENTIRE PREMISE of postwar American diplomacy, the whole thing, which trump has been systematically destroying piece by piece, is that if you build up the world economy with rules based trade and multilateral arrangements and interweaving economies...THEN EVERYONE WINS. The US wins, Guatemala wins, China wins, and we don't go shooting at each other.

Since the US imposed this system the world has had the most incredible rise out of poverty and reduction in inequality the world will ever see. And there have been no major power wars in that time.

And that's leaving out direct aid like the marshall plan.

So yeah that's what the US used to do. Now trump is tearing it apart. Which will conly cause more poverty and MORE illegal immigration. Morans.

So yeah, trade deals and other help is the way to slow illegal immigration.

I mean, why do you think illegal immigration has been falling for decades? Why? Why?

The answer is that other nations are becoming wealthier enough to keep more of their young people. That's the reason.

Thanks, I read it with an open mind. But I will say even before I read it, there are a lot of programs in the US that cost money that keeps our country safe.

So even if it isn't financially a smart idea, it saves lives and millions of crimes being committed. I hope they took that into account when writing this article? I doubt it, but let me see.

If you really think that a Mexican benefits this country by 30K per year, then I don't know what to say. I am sure I don't even benefit this country half of that. So all of these lawn jobs and such, brings in more money than a minimum wage job with no taxes? That is just dumb.

Even if it did, it didn't even say that a wall wouldn't work. Of course a wall done properly would work.

But if you are hoping that the way to get rid of illegals is from a recession, which is what they say is effective, well, I hope not as I like to keep my job regardless of it keeps Mexicans from coming over or not.

And again, it only costs Americans 7 dollars per person to build a wall and stop millions of crimes that happen from illegals. I will tell you, 7 dollars is worth it to me if they are even right, which I don't think so.

One just needs to look at Europe to understand effective immigration management. If you disalllow businesses from hiring undocumented workers they have very little incentive to come. They have a self inflicted migrant crisis right now, but these people don’t have any permanent way to make a living, so once out of the temporary asylum system they have little recourse but to go back home. I don’t fully agree with 100% strict employment laws but just saying they are effective in reducing immigration.

The main immigration issue in the US has always been what to do about the millions that have been living here for so long and their kids, but we have always benefited tremendously from a strong flow of cheap labor.

My main point is Trump’s wall/fence/steel bars neither resolves the legal status of millions residing here nor does it prevent immigration that actually benefits us anyway. It certainly wouldn’t stop drugs and criminals from crossing. It’s just a total waste of money and would serve as a negative symbol. It is not American.

well you completely skipped over the part where it says the wall would not materially reduce illegal immigration. Which is the whole reason for the wall, right? If it doesnt' work then why have it?

As for crime, that's a tricky one. I'll separate from most Dems by agreeing that illegal immigration does increase crime. If you are that victim, then it sucks to be you.

But

The US is running the lowest crime rates since the 1960s in most ways. Crime has been falling, falling, falling. I don't see how a few thousand more crimes committed by illegals matters a whole lot, when 99% of the crime is committed by US citizens. I mean if you are serious about slowing crime more, then do something about handguns, and cut spend billions to lower recidivism. That would lower crime. But it's not politically useful to Rs so they won't do it.

Whereas calling illegals murderers, rapists and bearers of disease brings out the vote, so that's what trump does.

Sick.

Any anyway, an ocean to gulf wall won't stop illegals, so the whole premise is lame. They'll still come. They will still commit crimes. Might as well not steal land from locals, spend hundreds of billions of useless dollars, wreck the environment if they are coming anyway.

Yes dude, most everyone who wants a wall, wants companies to be penalized when hiring illegals. You are preaching to the choir but to the right (not the rich, they don't give a F about regular folk), not the left.

The fact that millions have come here and sucked the tit from America isn't my problem. I have friends who spent 10 years going through visas and immigration to come here legally and many friends who cant get a visa here at all.

So you want to say FU to all of those trying to do it legally and then let the one who said FU to our laws by coming here illegally.

1. There were 1,478 murders in texas in 2016. Your view is that 'over 1000' of them were committed by illegals? Please copy/paste or link. That would change my mind on a few things if true.

My friend who is a teacher isnt even allowed to ask her student for his/her SS# during registration in the beginning of the year because of illegals. What country on earth makes it's locals scared to ask its people for their ID#. Only Democrats who try to start race crap every 5 min.

Agreed, he F'ed up not getting it done earlier. I do think he will cave or give DACA or something to get the wall.
