Just want to follow up a little on Trump and complexity. Here's a quote from his amazingly incoherent interview with Sean Hannity:
"Yes. Ready? Most of the [Jan 6 insurrectionists] were absolutely innocent. OK. But forgetting all about that, these people have served horribly a long time. It would be very, very cumbersome to go and -- look, you know, how many people are we talking about? 1,500 people. Almost all of them are -- should not have been -- this should not have happened."
First, Trump can't finish a single thought; he can't string together a sentence that meaningfully articulates a supposition--something something "very, very cumbersome"--with a likely consequence of that supposition. "It would be very, very cumbersome to go and . . ." what? To go where and do what? He doesn't know and, if he does, he's simply too stupid to articulate it.
He goes on to act as though 1,500 people is some gigantic number. This is, of course, insane. He's the President and has a huge staff; if he wanted to, he could have ten interns look through the files for just two hours each to identify the insurrectionists who beat or tased cops; then he could take that much-smaller-than-1,500 number and declare that, as the law-and-order President, he will not be pardoning those. This would, in fact, be the opposite of cumbersome. If having staffers read through the files of 1,500 people is too cumbersome, what about tasks and responsibilities that are actually hard?
It's Trump's fear of work and complexity that's so obvious here. What he's saying is, finally, "I might have to think about this," and there is nothing Trump hates more than being forced to think, because thinking takes time and might result in ambiguity and nuance and shading and, to be done properly in the first place, requires a vocabulary hundreds of times larger than Trump's.
All I'm saying is that Trump is a simple person, overwhelmed by the most basic duties of his office--he said as much himself to Hannity. This task, he said, would be "very, very cumbersome." But, truly, only for a person as stupid as Trump, an administration as inept as his.
Excellent post and observation.
I think one way to understand Trump is like this. He is NOT a stupid person. He simply does not give a sh!t about anything or anyone. In a way that no public figure ever displayed before. He doesn’t care enough to learn both sides of an issue. Doesn’t care enough about the interviewer. Certainly doesn’t care about the people watching the interview. Doesn’t care about facts. Doesn’t dignify anyone by trying to be accurate in what he says.
He can’t be bothered with anything that isn’t focused on himself and his grandiosity ever. His own staff said he had a two minute attention span trying to discuss national security events. They had to draw pictures and flatter him or he would lose focus immediately.
Comprehensively dumb/stupid? Probably not. He certainly has some wisdom in enthralling the rubes, for example. But pretty damn dumb in a lot of the ways we normally think about intelligence? Absolutely.
Bad and dumb. Not mutually exclusive, unfortunately.
And reminds me of what I and many others learned during his first term. Going into it, I thought, "The guy's a billionaire. He can't be all that dumb."
But I learned, I think: If you start off with enough money, and are greedy and selfish and nasty and ambitious and hard working enough, you can be (at least intermittently!) very rich WITHOUT being smart, at all. The guy is largely a f***** ignorant idiot. Displays it daily/hourly. And yet great wealth. Too bad it can work like that, but it can.
Federal / government jobs are a glorified welfare program. Are there any talented people there?
Do you want every military contract to be way over budget? Not caring about competence on the Federal side is a good way to waste immense amounts of money.
Times a million other things that the federal government does. Just another example of the very dumb things that dumb people think and say. Apparently, large private organizations need smart people to run. But even larger government organizations - some of which are doing quite hard things, AND spending billions of taxpayer dollars doing so - can be run by idiots. It's all super easy. A handful of people could do it. The great majority are welfare chaffe.
Yep, just idiots currently running the government. Let's fire them all, and see if we can responsibly spend trillions and do things that many/most Americans want done.
Dumb was the bureaucratic blob that allowed Dr. Anthony Fauci to fund gain of function research, kill millions, fund an experimental vaccine, ruin the global economy, double the Federal debt and pretend no one is responsible for the scandal.
this is the kind of country trump is turning us into. When loyalty to a president is more important to loyalty to the constitution. Dirtbags. Degenerates.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has decided to remove retired Gen. Mark A. Milley’s security detail, suspend his security clearance, and order an inspector general inquiry into his behavior as the Pentagon’s top officer, senior defense officials said Tuesday, taking extraordinary action against a frequent target of President Donald Trump.
Pete's jealous that Milley has tabs and rank and experience and ability and character that he'll never have.
Milley will be (minorly) remembered as a person who reached the absolute pinnacle of his profession, and showed a rare bit of humility while serving there.
Petey will certainly be remembered as THE least qualified SECDEF and history, and VERY likely, one of the most embarrassing while in the job.
True. But remember that Petey, Kash, Biondi are all installed to do some heavy duty, wholesale corruption that will dwarf what we commonly view as corruption.
So the public memory of simply having no qualifications will be replaced by the awful things they did for Trump. Remember the universal law that ETTD. These appointments will live that law eventually.

We just don’t know how yet.
Yeah, I certainly didn't mean to imply that it will ONLY be embarrassing. As you say, it will likely be things much worse than that. However, I do still hold out hope that this president and his administration will find that being awful isn't quite as easy as they might have hoped (we've already seen a few signs of that), and that their party will suffer at least SOME consequences for trying so hard to be so.
Did she have a deeply dishonorable past and be caught lying dozens of times?
Who cares? If she believed that Covid vaccine was good for healthy children then she must go. Can’t make the wrong call with lives on the line. live and learn.

ok would be good if you actually posted up the specific policies that she pushed and got done.
let's learn something! Maybe you are right. Maybe whatever she did trumps RFK's complete lack of qualifications, freakish behavior with dead animals, his drug use and other scrapes with the law, abuse of women, sexual assault, brain worm, lies about the very health services he will oversee, etc.

reminder that republicans died in numbers far in excess of dems after the vaccines came out. Whatever you clods want to say about the vaccines, they clearly saved many thousands of lives. You morans committed suicide by RFK.

Naive Question of the Day: Can the newly-emboldened Trump go a whole 4 years without doing something that 60 Senators agree is over the line ??
only if there are 60 Dem senators.
otherwise,completely impossible.
Trump could literally direct a mob of supporters to attack the national legislature, kill the vice president, overturn democracy and a free and fair election and still be supported by nearly 100% of elected Rs.

Saying that they should protest "peacefully and patriotically" is directing them to attack?

It’s interesting. Trump was impeached for withholding congress dedicated funds to Ukraine. Which is illegal.
Yesterday, Trump essentially did exactly what he was impeached for on an enormous scale. He halted congress dedicated funds for hundreds of things just because they don’t fit his agenda.
And instead of Ukraine being the victim America was going to be the victim.
Cant help but think of Susan Collin’s. “I believe Trump learned his lesson and that is why I did not vote to convict.”.

October 13, 2022: U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine is again insisting there's a consensus among medical professionals that "gender-affirming care is medically necessary, safe, and effective."
You need to use your critical eye to examine the funding of gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology by Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the connections to the lab leak that killed millions and sank the global economy. The role Dr. Fauci played that ruined the health of millions of Americans by encouraging sedentary behavior, psychosis increases by separating people from normal social contacts, all by provably wrong mask and segregation mandates. Furthermore, how did Dr. Fauci and his colleagues benefit both before and after Covid?
