This wall is to appease Trumps base—pure and simple. If it were a serious attempt to address National Security the they would also insist on a Northern Border. To be clear—this is a political move to satisfy the many, many racists in Trump’s base who are only calling for a southern border wall because most of the people coming across are the “wrong” color—i.e. brown.

Trump and his administration’s whole rationale / arguement for the wall is BS for many reasons—some of which you highlight nicely.
