I have made investments in Vietnam, they are hard-working and know how to make a buck. And in my experience, WAY MORE honest and trustworthy than China.

Vietnamese are humans, Chinese not so much—at least that is how they seem to treat each other?

Lol I had maybe 25 bucks, and at the time was usually buried deep in Vic Hall, well-insulated from market events. Studying, of course. ?

I do remember that during Bud Weekend ‘87, I did have some really excellent Chateaubriand at the Wolfe Island Inn. No wonder I had only $25

I wasn't alive yet so also pretty well insulated from that crash

Slightly racist but point taken. A lot of companies have been moving to Vietnam and Cambodia over the past several years anyways. Visibility on environmental concerns and ethical labor sources have really pushed companies out of China. Nike was the first domino, and 18 year old liberal arts proto-Marxists (fresh out of their Philosophy 101 class) love their "evil corporate America" hot takes but don't let that fool you, companies know the headache isn't worth and consumer sentiment has changed.

China is bad news over the next 5 years at least and more and more companies are going to pull out

Perhaps. I had two interesting careers. Living where I want to now, which would have been difficult in coaching. As a coach I was gone about half of the yearly weekends. My wife never objected, but that is a fact of life with Division I coaching. First third of my career we had no children, and took my son with me frequently, set up cross country courses, etc. Had free time summer, and Christmas Holidays. The travel during indoor and outdoor track wears on you. Looking back, not sure how I did it as long as I did. Glad I had that experience though.

Not a good time to be in China right now, markets are shifting and no one wants their sh!t anymore. Biden's China plan is as aggressive as Trump's. Just really not a great time to be in those ETFS imo and honestly fvck China

I'm up to 7% emerging markets in my personal portfolio.

strange - that feels like a large allocation, but it's still a large underweight.

In VT, the Vanguard total world index, emerging markets are 11%.

I suppose the big question is if the US deserves to have the large overweight that it always has in US portfolios.

And also - should we own Europe at all. I mean what's the point?

I do remember some bad vibes from around that time, though.

I knew about as much about markets as I do now (you can guess), but I so clearly recall one of my collegeroommates (business major, wealthy father, investments of his own, quite interested in the market) saying over and over again, "Nothing really changed, nothing really changed...WTF?!" I often remember this when the market - to which I typically pay little attention - goes up or down by a lot, but without, seemingly, a "big" reason to do so. I guess that he was going through a learning phase that all investors go through (....or not).
