Speaking of Koech he is getting back into shape pretty quickly. Made a pretty good jump from his last race to Paul short. Plus it was muddy as anything. He just might be a contender for top 10 at conference.

From what i've read it sounds like Koech is doing the recruiting, not the UNCG coach. If that is the case, why not go with it? I can pretty much guarantee that any coach in the country would do the same if presented with this situation. If Koech is saying "I can make this team better via my connections with Kenya," why wouldn't you do it? Makes sense to me. Either way...my predictions:
1. UNCG by 4-9 points
2. Davidson a close second
3. App a little further behind
4. UTC 10 points behind App
5. Furman
6. Western?
If App wins this year they will be in a three way tie for MOST SOUTHERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS EVER!!!!
But with two of their top men out, they are not going to...
It's over before it's even begin. UNCG goes 1,2,4. Nuffin else matters.
So... how was everyone's weekends?
Furman has 2 in top 15, but then falls too far back to # and especially 4/5. Lucky to crack top 5 and they lose their 2 best runners to graduation.

Furman almost beat App up at Boone and that was with Gilmer as their 6th man. Not sure what happened to him but if he's up there then they look like they got 4 good guys but not as much of a 5th man.
Right now its a two team race between Davidson and UNCG. I give the edge to davidson based on their depth. They have a lot of guys under 26 right now. UNCG is better up front but only have 4 good guys. Koech will lose to Davidson's entire top 7 maybe more. If he was running like last year then it would be UNCG in a landslide but he's obviously not good anymore and will cost his team the 'ship. There you have it. Davidson is too deep to lose to a team with as bad a 5 as UNCG has.
So does either UNCG or Davidson have a chance at all to make it to nats?

Not so fast my friend. True, 26:07 on paper doesn't appear very impressive. But UVA evidently isn't the easiest course. Koech was sandwiched between Britto of Duke (26:04) and Reeves of Liberty (26:07). Britto ran 25:23 two weeks prior at SAS Park - and Reeves ran 25:32 two weeks ago at McAlpine. So Koech probably would have run in the 25:30's at McAlpine. Davidson's 4,5,6 runners ran 25:15, 25:20, and 25:22 respectively at McAlpine the other day. So yes, Davidson still has an edge at the #5 spot. But, instead of a perceived 30-40 gap on Koech it's probably within 15 seconds. And you have to consider that Koech is running in no man's land - he's not fast enough to keep up with UNCG's #4 and their 6 and 7 runners aren't good fast enough to keep up with him. But at conference he has a definite target - just keep the Davidson pack in sight.
Davidson can still beat UNCG though. A few places here and there can make all the difference. It'll be fun to see though! Can't wait!
so in other words, chelimo should have run a 22:50.
That might be the case if this were a dual meet but its not. Koech has to worry about more than the Davidson 5th man. He has to worry about the 30 or so other guys that will be beating him. Davidson's 5th man will be top 15. Koech will be lucky to be top 30. He will account for more than half of UNCG's score by himself. He hasn't broken 26 yet and probably won't.
Does no one remember how Davidson sucks a d**k every year at conference? For the past three years everyone's been all up on Davidson's nuts but every year they seem to fail to live up to the expectations.
My guess, UNCG wins with Davidson barely holding off Chatt, Furman, and App for second.
Furman ain't going to be in there.
Sorry. Enjoy 5th as always.
thats a good one. wrote:

No. More likely to be a 30 second difference - so a 23:36 becomes a 23:06 at McAlpine. He did beat Oklahoma's #1 runner by 17 seconds. This would also put Thompson/Katam right around 24 flat which is right where Ryan Hopkins is.
