Why do people still rip on Hooley for being inconsistent. Give the guy credit, he has run faster than any other MIAC runner in the past few years, and has done great things outside of college. Running post-collegiately takes dedication, discipline and sacrifice that is very hard to understand until you actually do it.
I agree. Actually I would say a 2:19 marathon makes him close to if not the greatest MIAC runner of all-time after graduation.
sorry, im gonna call shenanigans on that one. ust's wareham was a terror on the roads post graduation. bethel's timp was as well. that's just miac alums who are presently coaching. 2:19 is great, but that does not make hooley the best miac alum post graduation.
Either way, he is still up with the best. He did win Grandma's 1/2 marathon, and boasts road pr's of 1:04 and 2:19. Give credit where credit is due.
and the olaf alum from back in the 80s, mike palmquist, I think holds teh course record for Get in Gear, running near 29 flat for the 10k.
I'd have to disagree. Good old Pete Wereham dropped a 1:05:42 1/2 marathon split in the City of Lakes in 1989, and also ran 29:34 on the road. He would have beaten Hooley in his prime.
Doesn't Wareham still own the MN road race record for 5K? Regardless, Hooley is up there with some of the MIAC greats as far as post graduation running and hopefully he will have a good performance at the Trials and get a PR. Give the man some props.
Mike Palmquist is one of the all-time best in the MIAC. He won the MIAC CC title as a frosh and also won the NCAA 1500 in something like 3:47.XX. Teammate Matt Haugen was a sub 2:20 marathoner as was Mac alum Paul Mausling. Plus, these guys might be considered all-time top 10 MIAC CC. Mansiu from UST is another in this group, NCAA CC champ and 2:16 marathoner. Dale Kramer from Carleton is perhaps the best ever MIAC CC runner. Wareham won the MIAC CC meet by nearly 30 seconds. Not quite the gap Erickson put on the boys, but he put the gap on All-American John Gathje (7th in NCAA CC) and Charlie Mahler (26th in NCAA CC), and an NCAA CC Champion from his own team in Nic Mansiu. Erickson is right in there with those geezers from the 70's and 80's.
I don't think Carleton was in MIAC during the Dale Kramer era.

Haugen never ran sub 2:20, he has run 2:23.xx but there is a large difference there.
I've got to say Gathje and Manciu are about as good as it gets (Jeff Renlund has the PR's but always seemed to choke in the big races), and I would put Erichsen in this group.
Here's a site made by an assistant of the wayzata high school team, he takes a lot of pictures of college meets too, although it is somewhat biased towards alumni of wayzata and their teams, but he's got a lot either way. It's right at the top of the page.
The SJU Fall Finale is today, as is the Hamline Burning Spear Mile. Anybody know of the teams that are going to be at the Fall Finale?
I'm not sure of all of them. I know U of M will be up at SJU though.
I have also heard that Luther's JV runners will be at the SJU fall finale.

Carleton was indeed in the MWC when Kramer was there. Still, he is a 2-time NCAA CC champion and is #2 DIII all time in the 5000 meters with a 13:53.
Twenty-Four years old, Paul Mausling was second in the Twin Cities Marathon. 2:16:37. I don't believe any MIAC alum has even minutes close to that on Minnesota soil.
