dude, anyone who can read a history textbook should know that socialism is bad.
you're confusing mixed economy socialism with state-dominated communism. free health care and education and housing vs. a police state.
your own president wants people from norway. he tells his own people don't worry about college then wants migrants from a college educated socialist country.
again, define socialism.
some use the textbook definition: the government ownership of the means of production. Obviously, that's Cuba and North Korea, not anywhere in europe or North Am.
but
some use a looser definition like 'a nation with social security and nationalized medical care.'
it's a useless convo really...there is no meaning of the word 'socialism' anymore so it's people talking across each other.
According to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, Israel was the driving force behind Trump's efforts to pursue regime change in Venezuela.
It wasn’t about Narco drug trafficking, oil, or gold, it’s the fact that we’re risking another forever war to conduct foreign policy on… pic.twitter.com/JUeiHc4sJg
What are you talking about. US have 38 trillions in debt. Meanwhile Norway with it's 5 million people have a pension fund of 2 trillions in plus. And in Norway education and healthcare is free, people are happier than in the US. Every country needs a combination of socialism and capitalism.
Capitalism works when there is competition. How much competition is there when a few wealthy individuals are getting richer every day? That is just like a large government except that the money doesn't trickle down to hard-working people- so maybe comparable to a corrupt government
If the US was geographically much smaller and had the same relative amount of oil, it would resemble Norway with respect to wealth.
Exactly, and had a more homogenous population like Norway. “Relative” being the operative word. I love the disingenuousness in people picking out a country like Norway as an example of why the US should have nationalized healthcare, as one example. Norway, with its sovereign oil fund where fully 25% of the workforce isn’t working on any given day. A much fitter, more robust, very homogeneous population too.
As far as Venezuela, this is Obama 2.0 policy, but without NATO troops. The fallout will be interesting. Russia is the big loser here but it sets a dangerous precedent for China.

Are you aware that the American people elected him? lol.....So unlike the unelected Democrat federal judges trying seize control.
they elected congress too. they passed the constitution also.
but congress has checked out and basically does not exist anymore.
the WH has decided the constitution is no longer relevant and trump can do whatever he wants.
did we all elect that when we elected this nepo-baby president?
You lost the election...Accept it....Your guy was the worst President in history....NOW we have a real leader who cares about his country....You've got 3 more years to _itch and moan....
this what a great nation looks like without a national legislature.
just one man running everything.
anathema to the Constitution and spirit of the republic.

Based on the responses on LRC, Trump cannot get 20% of the votes in a few and fair election. He most likely cheated in 2024. Elon’s starlink may have played a role.

80% chance the Dems win the house in 10 months of your party allows elections.

to me part of the problem is there is no overarching foreign policy concept that explains our general goals or this thing in particular. this is ok but the right likes orban and putin. threatens canada and greenland. doesn't like NATO.
there is no theme. there is no alliance with friends who are not just off limits but protected. he dislikes one problematic country. he's ok with others like it.
this is very personalized. it's who does this one man not like.

Like the great nations of Russia or North Korea. Like many Americans have said though, "This is what we voted for." Still energized by their common hate of the non-white man.

No, the US would look nothing like Norway, even with 10x the oil you have. No way would a public (socialist) wealth fund like Norway's ever be created in the land of the greed.
This isn't speculation, just facts. The US has loads of oil resources and the average person has certainly not shared in that wealth in the way that Norwegians have there. You are allergic to taxing corporations, holding the deluded belief that the more profit Chevron makes the better for everyone. How's that working out?
Related, why do you think every other developed country is "much fitter and more robust"? Do you think that universal health care and the general lack of rampant poverty could have anything to do with it?
And you are also a left winger and we wish you woud leave....
You can certainly be right wing and not want any more military adventurism.
You might recall that Trump made an election promise of no more military adventurism. Was he a left winger at the time?
Only a dumb azz is comepletely inflexable...A person has to react to the situation at hand....I respect someone who is able to change his veiwpoint if it's warranted.

yes, you've all had to react to the situation at hand. I hope you respect yourselves as you've changed your viewpoints over the past year.
Boston Smalls @smalls2672 Pretty wild watching maga in less than a year go from anti sex trafficking, anti pedophilia and anti war to pro sex trafficking, pro pedophilia and pro war. 9:02 AM · Jan 5, 2026

Another war they will lose, add it to all the other wars unless they get help.
USA will Force an Unconditional Surrender before February 1st, You Will know We have Forced Venezuelas Unconditional surrender When Trump Repeats The Famous words Of Harry Truman After Forcing Japans Unconditional Surrender Just as Harry Truman Said We are Pulling out as All of our Militatry Objectives have been Met. Then Trump Will say TIME FOR THE VDAY PARADE.
Just like Ukraine and Gaza will be over by 1s day in office.
Trump and US Texas oil cartel have created a Vietnam and Middle East mess 1,000 miles from your backdoor.
With Solar, wind, e-fuel and fusion your tax money wouldn't be going.to the military welfare. These industries create high tech and clean safe work place.Ever been on Oil rig or in a coal mine?
I thought Republicans were about self responsibility so why does government have to take out drug lords.
Don't Republicans have enough self control to just say no?
Booze and Tobacco combined are worse than drugs. Why not over throw Virginia and Kentucky?
This is the real story (the Venezuelan expat community, not Trump owning the libs by kidnapping Maduro). Trump's war against Venezuela has nothing to do with drugs or oil. It is simply a matter of a handful of very wealthy Venezuelans who fled Venezuela when Chavez took power were able to get to Trump through their relationship with Rubio. Their story to Trump is that they were once among the wealthy elite in Venezuela, owning land, various industries, etc. until Chavez came to power and nationalized their companies and took their land. That is the socialist nightmare that every billionaire fears is the natural consequence of even the slightest egalitarian social democratic policy. Trump then agreed to take out Maduro in order to install a right wing government that will basically be a Pinochet 2.0. Violently repress any sort of leftist opposition and sell (or give back) all state owned industries to the expat communities living in south Florida. It is basically make the Venezuelan oligarchs of the 70s and 80s Great Again (MVO7080GA?).
But the big problem is the same as the big problem of the Iraq war, but in a different form. Maria Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez are a bit like the Venezuelan Ahmed Chalabi (for you youngins, he was who the Bush administration presumed would be treated by Iraqis as a hero and quickly become a unifying leader after the fall of Sadam). The opposition in Venezuela is not united behind these figures and for all the harm caused by Chavez and Maduro, there are still very large numbers of very poor Venezuelans who support the Bolivarian revolution and do not want to see a return to the days when all the wealth in Venezuela pooled into the hands of a few connected oligarchs in Caracas. In short, a transition to a government that can implement Pinochet/Chicago Boys style reforms without causing a civil war is a task that Machado's movement is not up to.
The only way to fully see through what the Venezuelan expats want is for a full scale US invasion and occupation on par with the Iraq War. It would probably be a far easier invasion as the Venezuelan armed forces are a joke and would quickly evaporate once US cruise missiles start taking out every military installation in the country. But the next step, occupation and transition to civilian rule, would be hell. There would definitely be a guerilla revolt in the rural areas that would basically be Vietnam-esque jungle combat with heavy casualties for both sides. Worse still, Venezuela imports 80% of its food because of the Bolivarian revolution's mismanagement of the agriculture sector and punishing sanctions. That would mean a very real chance for famine especially in the rural communities. And this could happen even if Trump does nothing further at this point or if a quick transition to a right wing government took place without a shot being fired.
And Trump is just getting started with Venezuela. Cuba is next. Both countries are in such desperate straits economically that the destruction of their governments without immediate Marshal Plan style aid flowing into the country will cause famine, civil war and mass exodus of people who will all try to get to the US.
Venezuela’s downfall is when they nationalized a bunch of their industries and replaced profit driven competent individuals with incompetent political appointees.
Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA, Spanish pronunciation: [peðeˈβesa]; English: Petroleum of Venezuela) is the state-owned oil and gas company of Venezuela. It has activities in exploration, production, refining and exporti...
It’s one thing to pay for social projects with petroleum royalties. It’s a whole other to try to run an oil company with people who have no experience running any business, let alone an oil business. Venezuela will be fine once they get competent individuals back in place to increase production. Chavez and Maduro killed the Golden Goose.
The world is already a free for all. International law is fake.
bullsh*t. it's one of those things like traffic laws where it's like, "i don't have to obey that, really."
until things turn chaotic or someone tags you in a wreck. then you want the rules back.
we have the rules because we had 2 highly deadly world wars within 30 years.
You do have to obey traffic laws, or else the police will punish you. There's no "international police" enforcing your so called "international law," never has been never will be. It's literally fake.

agreed, but it's not flipping a switch.
it will take hundreds of billions of dollars and a decade to get V back up to its potential, oil-wise. And that's assuming things go well politically.
