I had never listened to his podcast, but with all the attention this week, I tried listening to it this week. Didn’t make it far, but the primary thing that struck me was how neurotic he was. That’s meant less as a criticism (though perhaps it might be perceived that way) than as an observation. Neuroticism is one of the Big Five personality traits, and he’s up there. I don’t think it’s an affect; it just seems to be who he is. Some people are drawn to that. Some are repulsed by it. I remember back in the day there were people who loved Woody Allen movies because of their perceived authenticity and then there were plenty more people who couldn’t fathom why anyone would like Woody Allen movies. All that’s to say, I think the way people react to highly neurotic people in the public eye explains a lot of the polarization around this guy.

Great post until this part. David Roche is no Woody Allen

It ain’t the neuroticism that disgusts you my friend

Bruh I don't care about David's sexual orientation or sex life. Like at all.
But like all things David, that's kinda-sorta part of the problem as gawd-dayum will he not stop advertising -- ad nauseam -- about the version of it he wants you to believe. And he does this with the help of his partner.
We're not all that dumb and we can all read the subtext when people act that way. Not good messaging.
