Unfortunately, yes. There is a good chance Holman doesn't even break 9 minutes at Arcadia. I feel bad for him. Is overtraining the issue? Perhaps he's peaked and is plateauing now? I hope he gets out of this.
I think he’s aging. It happens as you get older. You start slowing down.
I think Eyan might go sub 8:50 given his performance at state and nxn. He always tends to do pretty well in extremely competitive environments. I think he’s gonna come out of nowhere
Like haven’t y’all noticed that the Woodward park times at state that were faster than Broen’s were all done by people younger than him (Turk- August 2006, Pretre- 2007, Fitchen-Young- 2007, Lesher- 2007, Noonan- 2007, Kushen- 2007, Caldwell- 2007, Miller- 2007, Cook- late 2006, Bouie- 2007). Broen is November 2005, he should already be in his first year of college.
I really don't understand the logic behind the whole "delaying high school because of COVID" thing. That just makes zero sense. He was an 8th grader for the 2019-2020 school year so he should've started high school in 2020. But he didn't... because of "covid." What?
Even if it were true, I have absolutely no idea why he or his family thought that it would be a good call. Age cheating is never okay. There are plenty of 2024 graduates that still did exceptional despite the COVID issues. He would've been among them. The poor kid is probably sick of being a year older than everyone and feels he should be in college by now.
Like another fellow 2024 SJS runner, Josh Chu. Literally same thing (late 2005 going by athletic) and he had quite the phenomenal high schoolers career (also another fellow FVL runner- great guy)

Josh Chu was cracked. His school has since moved to the CVC which is the league my high school has been in for a good number of years now.
I remember in 2023 at SJS masters when Broen just barely passed him in the 3200m at the finish, costing him a spot to the state meet.
That sure is pretty bitter to look back on now, lol
it’s also pretty ironic considering he’s from SONORA, California. They quite literally don’t believe Covid exists. I can’t speak on politics here cause this isn’t thread to do so, but let’s just say the Sonora xc/tf program has some… rather interesting beliefs about Covid to say the least.

He only ran 14:30 5k on the track though. Maybe he's just more of an xc guy? I think anyone that can suprise on Saturday it would be Aydon. I truly believe he can run sub 8:50

From how long ago? Could just be outdated. Or he wasn't using full effort.
Any guy who can run 14:30s on the Woodward course can break 8:50 in the 3200m, no question
This was during Nike Indoor Nationals. To be fair tho, the results from California in NIN are mixed. Noonan didn’t have a good day in the mile but a phenomenal day in the 3200. Miles Cook choked the 3200 but went onto be all American in mile the next day.
I think Aydon Stefanopoulos is going to have the surprise performance of the night in regards to California 3200m runners. He's PRed by 4 seconds from the 4:10 mile PR he had his sophomore year when he ran his 8:57 PR. Do some math and it's not hard to see him reaching 8:50.
Josh Chu was one of my favorite runners to follow in 2023-2024. After he missed NXN by one spot in 2023 XC, I was happy to see him redeem himself and place 1st and 23rd respectively at footlocker regionals and nationals. Plus his 4th place 8:48 finish in the 2024 state 3200m out kicking Lucas Cohen (a friend of a friend) was the cherry on top.
Josh is underrated. Going sub-15, beating guys like Lucas Cohen and Josh Bell at the state meet, and almost beating Jason Parra- was a huge shock but not surprising to me. I’ve competed with him since COVID. His coach would always yell from the top of her lungs to tell bro to push, and it’d honestly make me lock tf in during the race cause “I didn’t want to get beat by the freshman.” Ever since I’ve graduated, I still kept up with him and other fellow FVL athletes cause our league wasn’t just a “league”but a group of friends who always pushed each other. Glad to see him and the Ponderosa program taking off, they really do deserve it after going under the radar for many years.
@SJSGlaze. Do you have like an email where we could exchange our thoughts regarding running? You seem to enjoy the sport quite like I do so I think it would be a good way for us to interact.

I'm also interested because SJSGlaze and I seem to be in the Sacramento area 😂
FYI I must confess, I am Gordie3 and I'm a pretty frequent poster on here, I chose a different name when I made this thread because my regular one wasn't working at the time for some reason
