Nah but this puts brooks in a bit of a quagmire, they insisted the elite 4 was the best thing since sliced bread (especially priced at $250) but it never really held up anywhere and less than a year later we already have a newer/better model on the horizon…
Do people think doping started recently? You have to learn to appreciate the performances knowing they're doped.
Whatever they're on, they need to give some of it to the American Women. It's 40 years on, and American women struggle to beat Joan Benoit's time in the 84 marathon.
I'm usually a celebrate good performances & condemn the second you know something is up but this feels truly unbelievable... 2:09, 10th overall. Nothing in her past that would suggest something like this. Going out in 1:04 & hanging on is crazy. Thought we were heading to a 2:13-2:15 blow up but she picked it up with a late 4:4x. Weather today was good but not great. ~60 degrees & low-50s dew point. Some wind. That would indicate a 2:08 type performance with slightly better conditions. I really find it hard to believe that's where the women's WR is at with perfect conditions. She had a pacer with her the whole way but that shouldn't be enough for something this good. Half WR is 1:02-high. That's worth 2:11s. Again, this is a big improvement on that & this isn't a 1:02 runner (I guess 1:04 now).
I and disagree a little. It's an extraordinary record, but if anyone was going to do this, it's not a surprise to me that it's Chepngetich. She's tried going out at stupid places before and hasn't held on - she's tried it in Chicago at least twice before. This time it worked out. She's been one of the best marathoners in the world for years now so she's less dubious to me than Assefa, who came out of nowhere after a brief 800m career. By the same token, I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't clean either. In fact, I seem to remember a few years ago that she had trouble getting into WMMs even though she was World Champ because there were some doubts about her.
If Kipchoge's sub 2:00 doesn't count because of the pacers going the whole way.why does this sub 2:10 count when pacers were used the entire distance?
He swapped pacers. that said it would mean it is easier for woman on a relative basis since by definition no man can pace the world record the entire way.
