I thought the NBC announcing was good - relevant commentary without overdoing it. Kara did a good job with all of her events. Des was good too. NBC needs to upgrade the microphones for Kara and Des. Their voices tended to blend in with the background noise (on the track too). Good job overall.
Apart from the result, this was a masterclass in conserving energy during a marathon from Hassan. She held the blue line all the way, didn’t push the hills, withstood the temptation to go faster when she felt good before 20k (as she just told in an interview), took all her bottles and so forth.
I suspect it's a stress fracture. The entire thing is embarrassing. USATF coaches should have the authority to sit people who are injured. Though one wonders if McClain hadn't signed with Brooks and was unsponsored and running in Nikes if the outcome would've been different.

Ready to eat humble pie if I end up being wrong but why do these runners who are not favoured think they can drop Assefa, Jepchirchir et al.? It happens every race. Faniel yesterday the latest example.

They weren't trying to drop anyone, but were likely just trying to stay in a consistent rhythm, rather than speeding up and slowing down constantly, as they were in the pack (East Africans tend to race like this, especially when they're running well within themselves).

Jessica McClain must be pissed that she flew to Paris to see O'Keefe be done.
On one hand I believe that Fiona earned the spot so she can do what she wants, if McClain wanted to guarantee her spot, she should have done it at trials. On the other hand, it's kind of a sh*t move to just take the gun for the title of "Olympian" knowing you cannot even finish. TBH, I'm not sure what I would have done in that situation, you never know if you will ever get another shot to be an Olympian.

She has the right to do what she wants, but...she could have always said and will always be able to "I won the Olympic Trials Marathon in 2024". Silly semantics ruin everything.
If you are top 3 in your event to go to the Olympics, you are an Olympian, period. Please don't compare that to boycotts. The competing part is truly semantics.
