I really hope one day we look back at this controversy and realize how stupid everyone was about it.
Honestly progressives dropped the ball on this one. This was such a blatant display of transphobia and bigotry from the right, and somehow they got away with being the righteous ones.
Here's America's golden rule; never get in the way of a person making money. Never ever get in the way of that. We are the ultimate capitalist society, and in order to keep up the illusion that we are also a meritocracy, we must break down every barrier there is for ALL Americans to make money however they please.
So...trans women playing sports with cis women. No. Unfair. Period, paragraph.
Trans women in locker rooms...gross and uncomfortable for cis women.
Changing language to suit trans/non binary people...annoying and a hassle.
But a trans woman accepting a brand deal from a company to make some money? That should be allowed. and anyone arguing that it hurts cis women or that it hurts cis men or whatever is simply doing so in bad faith.
If the belief that people are actually espousing here is that trans women should not be allowed to have certain brand deals, that's not just bigoted, it's un-American.
Bill O'Reilly is persona non grata, but here is defending Ellen Degeneres who became a spokesperson for JC Penny in the late 00's.
He compared people who came out against Degeneres representing a "family" brand because she is gay, and compared it with McCarthy area witch hunts. Bill O'Reilly did that.
I see no difference here.
But... but... Latinx!
I'm civil libertarian on these issues wgaf but the trans aggression against women is both an intellectual farce and yet another typical example of mansplaining arrogance. Be trans! God speed and bless, just let the rest of the world-- especially women, and those whose culture, and language is masculine - feminine -- be themselves too.
May I never hear of Mulvaney again and may those who marketed and drank Bud Light... figure out what they're doing with their $ and why.
Exactly. I don't know how many times this needs to be repeated but - most people don't give a sh!t if others are trans! Just don't try and restructure our ideas on biology, language, cultural customs to conform to your mental illness and don't give kids permanent and risky body-changing interventions. I think that's a fair trade.

OK, but it’s no longer considered mental illness if you want to be trans.

The second half of your post sounds like you give quite a lot of a sh!t. Certainly enough to have what I'm sure you intend to be a pretty offensive opinion about it, anyway.

I was reading an article a few days ago. It was about a transgender woman (born as a biological male) who now self-identifies as a lesbian. In other words, a man who is attracted to women. We used to refer to such a person as a heterosexual.
Some of this stuff about trans people is legitimately getting unnerving. And I don't proclaim to be an ally or even progressive when it comes to trans rights.
As I said I believe
It's unfair for trans women to compete against cis women.
Cis women do need and deserve their own private spaces (locker rooms, and prisons for example)
Some of the language stuff is a bit...much. Let's keep it simple and keep moving.
There's a difference between sex and gender.
But all of this stuff that "trans doesn't really exist" is absurd. Trans people have always existed. Keep in mind it wasn't too long ago that we considered same sex attraction a "mental disorder" how many of you still believe that today?
It's important not to devolve into this whole "it's a mental disorder and they aren't real" stuff, that stuff is scary. That stuff is dehumanizing.
Please keep in mind that despite what you see and what you pay attention to, most trans people are private, reasonable, hard working people who just want to live their lives. People like Lia Thomas or Dylan Mulvaney don't represent most trans people. Most of them aren't trying to get attention or steal accolades, they just want to have a good life with opportunity and free of people in their faces telling them that they "don't exist."

Transvestites have always existed; you are right. Dressing up as a woman? Very few people have a problem with that.
Someone chopping off their boobs, or chopping off their penis has not always existed. Hormone therapy to encourage it has not always existed. It has never existed in schools until recently.
We are encouraging a mental disorder. We are telling them that they need "gender-affirming care" to irreversibly mutilate themselves when they have a disorder that needs to be fixed with therapy or drugs.

Hm maybe the problem is you can't read. I said most don't give a sh!t if someone is trans, BUT do care about the other things I mentioned. It's right there, all you have to do is read it.

This person had sexual reassignment surgery in 1930. That may be a recent history for an old folk like yourself. But most of us were not even born back then.
Lili Ilse Elvenes (28 December 1882 – 13 September 1931), better known as Lili Elbe, was a Danish painter, trans woman, and among the early recipients of gender-affirming surgery (sex reassignment surgery). She was a painter u...
This person had her surgery 21 years later. Unlike Elbe, she went on to live nearly four decades after her surgery. She was also taking estrogen... in 1951.
Christine Jorgensen (May 30, 1926 – May 3, 1989) was an American trans woman who was the first person to become widely known in the United States for having sex reassignment surgery. She had a successful career as an actress,...
We have different definitions of "always." I do not consider an invention of less than 100 years ago (shorter than we've had cars) to be "always existed."
And your first example is someone who died from the surgery. Not a great look.

Of course you would think that trans people have never existed in schools when most students, teachers, and administrators would have treated them with absolute ostracism, at best, until fairly recently. But a 45-year-old trans woman was a 15-year-old trans girl 30 years ago, and many of them even realized it then, at least to some extent. Even for children being openly trans, it's been longer than you think, but people who have been out of school for decades (for which I'm very thankful) always have an outdated image of what it's like.
Your claim that "no one had a problem with dressing up as a woman" is a transparent lie to anyone with any sense of history.
By the way, we agree that gender dysphoria is best treated with therapy and drugs.

Exactly. That stuff is far more, and worse, of a mangling of language for political ends than I see in most of the trans community. There's some pretty nutty stuff at the fringes, I'll give you that.
Of course, at the fringes of the anti-trans community, you have people with every bit as much hatred for cis LGB people as well.
you can spin this any way you want, but this is just pretty raw disdain of trans people.
It's not taking away from women--trans people drink beer too, what's the problem?
it's not taking away from conservatives--they can still drink the beer, it's not reserved for trans people now.
It's not a Dylan thing--she's an influencer. I don't see 21 page threads about any other annoying influencers with brand deals.
she drank a beer, one beer had a couple of sips. The outrage was ridiculous.
look, not every criticism is bigoted, and not everything is "transphobic." but this...is. You just don't like trans people around you. And there's a difference between people who are fighting for fairness in sports, and safety in locker rooms, and people who are railing against a trans influencer like this. Bud Light is a crappy beer, but it isn't "owned" by conservatives.
Well said. The mods can delete me again for saying this but you are 100% right, its transphobic!

But I am not surprised that people who deny climate change and evolution do not believe in science.
If your gender incongruence causes distress, even suicidal ideations, then it's classified as Gender Dysphoria per the DSM-V, which is a mental disorder.

I mean it literally is a mental disorder. Gender incongruence is a delusion that your body has the wrong sex characteristics. As I mentioned it also causes one to be suicidal. You can't speak out of both sides of your mouth by screaming "We need to give the kids sex change operations or they will kill themselves!!" And then on the other hand claim that gender incongruence/dysphoria whatever is not a mental illness that requires treatment.
I don't get the deal they use a hot babe too promote their brand and all he'll breaks loose! For anyone too complain about this it would be the running community that can't pull a women not of that caliber!
