I'm not the only one who thought the Rs would be smart to "cave" on continuing the subsidies. They could cast themselves as the reasonable people who were willing to compromise AND could avoid the fallout from when the healthcare premiums skyrocketed. Look, I do see the GOPers' point: that it's just a continuing resolution, that the Dems have made a big deal about passing "clean" CRs in the past, and that approving the CR now would leave ten weeks for Congress to work out what it'll do regarding those subsidies.

They don't even have the concept of a plan for that. The absolute most they might do would be, eventually, to acquiesce and just extend the existing subsidies that otherwise would lapse on 1/1/26. In which case, why not extend them now?
