Do you likewise believe the impeachment of Bill Clinton was just political theater? I disagree with you; an impeachment, even without a subsequent conviction, can be very damaging. I’m not saying I support one against Trump, just that the potential inability to convict in the senate is not a reason to refuse to impeach. It actually undermines the entire process if you skip ahead to guess what the senate may do as a determination of whether to seek to impeach or not.
What is the purpose of impeachment? To damage someone politically? No.
Are the hands of the House tied when it comes to impeachment? Or must they make a politically motivated decision based on the facts and intended end result?
Again I ask what is the purpose of impeachment?
I think Johnson’s impeachment by the House was unwarranted. Nixon’s was warranted. Clinton’s unwarranted. Trump TBD.
It will depend on if Mueller has a Nixonian smoking gun.
Our political process has devolved into a ruined tribal system with everyone out for their own benefit or their party so it’s already undermined. In a previous generation where Congressmen actually took their oath seriously then yes I would say impeachment could be justified, but that is not the world we live in.
Watch the polls. If he’s impeached by the House his numbers still won’t fall below the low 40s.

You might be underestimating the impact of a potential loss of 500k-1m votes in 2020 vs 2016. One thing is for sure, an impeachment will hurt trump more than it would hurt the Dems.
