To address the needs of the state’s growing population of aging uninsured immigrants, the California legislature expanded full-scope Medi-Cal coverage to include undocumented immigrant adults (fifty years of age and older) beginning in May 2022. The initiative addresses federal restrictions on Medi-Cal funding and is financed with state funds.
The point stands: no federal funding goes to non-emergency medical care for illegal immigrants and has no bearing on the reopening of the government.

Right wingers have been doing this since the shutdown. Conflating federal budget and spending with state and local programs.

Federal funding makes up the difference…view it as welfare. Give someone an additional $100 for only food and they get food. Give them $100 in welfare (general) and they can spend it on anything, even drugs. This is the difference

This cracks me up from Wall Street Journal's Motion to Dismiss in the Epstein Birthday Letter Defamation case-- basically saying they can't defame the reputation of a guy who already fvcked up his reputation to begin with.
"In addition, Plaintiff cannot allege harm to his reputation based upon the letter’s bawdy nature because he has a well-documented reputation for bawdiness based on his past statements about women. During the 2016 election, there was widespread media coverage of a 2005 'Access Hollywood” recording, in which Plaintiff described how he approaches women: “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. . . . Grab them by the pvssy. You can do anything.'" Dkt. 35 at page 14.
I still think Trump is out of his mind for bringing this case. Defamation cases are always difficult for public figures and this just brings more attention to the Epstein files, which he is desperately trying to vanish. If the case survives the WSJ motion to dismiss, Trump will have to sit down and get deposed for at least 7 hours. He's going to have to answer all kinds of awkward questions about his relationship with Epstein. He can't plead the Fifth like he's done in other cases -- he's the plaintiff here. I'm sure Blanche and Bondo tried to talk him out of this. He's just nuts.
