The Trials and Tribulations of Running YouTubers

Am I alone in my opinions, or does it really annoy anyone else when YouTube videos aren't published immediately, but are instead scheduled for a premiere like two days later? It instantly gives me the impression that the creators think they're more important than everyone else. I almost always end up skipping those kinds of videos.

You might be absolutely right, and Thomas may be implying that the shoes start to hurt AFTER three hours. I only brought it up because Thomas usually looks down on runners who take over 4 hours and considers himself a very different kind of runner — even though many of his marathons have been over 4 hours. He also immediately made excuses for his London Marathon time by saying the day was hot (which it was!), even though the time was completely in line with his other results and was very typical for him.

Ben is Running reminds me of Just Alex, an autistic Youtuber who sleeps in his car, harvests mushrooms, has bees, and tries being an Amazon driver.

Must be algorithm friendly in some way.

Jog On with Harry Morgan released a Trailer for his London video which views like a man going to war rather than a fella aiming for an above average marathon time.

Yea, but getting an above average marathon time is, for us hobby joggers, is like going to war. Harry is great - he leaves it all out there; collapsing at the end of a half is testament to this. Anyone who's trained hard and pushes hard on a marathon knows how brutal it is. This is why people like Fordy who walks it in, claiming it's a training run are so irritating.

Harry does not post often, but he knows how to tell a story. Big swing Phily needs to take some notes .

The Bath Half video is great with that all mighty bonk, I suspect the London video will be a good watch. But that trailer was a bit much for me. The black and white opening, a Netflix documentary style sit down in front of the camera interview shot just after & later the 'MAY 2025"... "A JOG ON STORY" titles. It was like watching something a Serious Runner would make as a parody.

I love his channel and his approach to training is really interesting to watch but...someone has to say it....if your entire brand is based on 'training harder not smarter', you introduce triple mileage days, you deliberately go into multiple marathons and now an ultra race overtrained and end up racing them pretty hard, it's really no surprise that at some point his body says no. Be that serious iron deficiency that requires intravenous iron infusion, or now what sounds like it could be some sort of autoimmune response/ being more susceptible to serious infection? I honestly wish him well and a speedy recovery but I'm sure he'd be the first person to admit that his fairly unique training style is largely responsible for the recent health scares he has had rather than not being able to 'catch a break'. He is clearly under the impression that more is always better at the moment but I'm hoping he can rein it in a little and hit some target races fully fit and healthy.

So many have been waiting for this one. Been a while

I listened to the Believe in the Run podcast on my run this morning. The last 10 minutes were hilarious and pathetic at the same time. It involved Robbe and Thomas swapping stories about who has the worse case of head lice as a kid, Meaghan threatening to walk off the set, them going deeper into the minutiae of head lice, and ended with Thomas sheepishly proclaiming "Try ELMNT" at the end of a 10 minute segment about head lice. It may be so bad that it's the greatest ad of all time.

You finished the entire episode? Props... I don't think I've ever gotten through a full podcast. Usually by the 10 minute mark I'm ready to jump off a bridge and turn it off

It was a longish run and I didn't feel like taking my phone out to change the podcast.

Maybe in mannerisms, but Just Alex has:

- film making talent

- interesting and varied projects he produces content on

- ability to self reflect and be self-aware

All of these traits are in desperately short supply in the land of running youtube

I’m plopping in here because of the new BITR NB SC Elite commercial where Thomas half-heartedly hocks the LMNT “Lemonade” flavor. I just thought, “he has completely achieved the effect of a used car salesman”.

But then FORDY HAS THE RUNS came in HARD with a Skechers commercial that I could swear is the capstone assignment of his unpaid internship at Skechers.

And then of course we have a deluge of videos by all the influencers who happily lapped up the ASICS promotional event trip to Japan. It really brought to mind classic business tourism - the only thing lacking was strippers on their laps while they try not to stain their suit pants

Ahh yes. "Runner beans"

The middle age bored house wife of a high flying executive who lacks the ability to run a small boutique shop, so has become an influencer. Good job her husbands got money, or she'd have to find a personality

Thanks for the info. Read up on the park and its got some history. Watched a video of the parkrun there and looks a nice park. one for the future. noticed they are nudging 1000 runners last couple of weeks. Hope i get sent back up this way soon.

This is a real indictment on the peoples opinion on Floberg that the narcissistic, anti semetic, drug smuggling, abuser Matt Fox is winning this.
