4) Filming yourself making coffee while talking about why you didn't do what you said you were going to do
Oats. Don't forget about the oats. I really can't get enough of watching people make oats.
or a bagel! it's SO fascinating to watch them pop it into the toaster and then pop out and slather peanut butter all over it. and then if they get some honey in there i'm like GIRL WHAT THIS IS INSANITY

i miss serious runner videos about all this. come back serious runner
I think Fordy has done a fair bit for getting people off their arses and out running. The people who think running is not for them and all the stereotypes. I think thats worth commending to a degree. People being active is a good thing.
But he's done very little in terms of performance and getting people to their absolute max potential.
I suspect the athletes he advises are pretty good to start with, if perhaps naïve to their genetic ability. And they just need a bit of structure to perform well. But his coaching is leaving a lot on the table in terms of potential, compared to a more experienced coach. But the end result is it makes Fordy look good when his mate runs sub3
He talks about his friend Hayden but I don't see him ever being coached to sub3 by Fordy. A good coach would get multiple people to a high level. Not just 1 or 2
Fordy is a clown. Couch to 5k and parkrun have made people in the UK get off their asses, no matter what he makes out that he's the biggest running movement since either of these things.
His coaching is perhaps, the absolute worst I've ever seen given some of the plans people have shared in retrospect.
The man should be in jail for even saying he's a coach. There's always an excuse for everything with this guy. The fact is he sucks at running and is an even worse coach.
Fordy with a great gatekeeping review of the Puma Fast R elite 3 - "This shoe is not for people like us"
In his new video about the NB Elite v4 at the London Marathon, Thomas says: ‘I can’t think of a marathon shoe that I don’t feel a little bit of discomfort after being in the shoe for 3 hours.’
Personally, I’d say 3:54:11 is closer to four hours, but Thomas still seems to think he’s a three-hour marathoner.
I'm quite enjoying Mo Abdin's videos regarding his London marathon. He had the frankly pretty stupid idea of banking time in the first half when it was a bit cooler, which of course didn't go well. But I think he's got a great and healthy attitude and a lot of self-reflection.
Interesting to see him running his own Youtube channel while also still being active on TRC.
He was one of the few (only?) youtubers who voiced support for Matt Choi after the NYC marathon debacle last year. I've avoided watching any of his videos on TRC since then because his face now reminds me of what happened and I'd rather not be reminded.
Unfortunately there is no quality control in the Coach in Running Fitness licence that he has; I know I was an assessor. There are some real, dangerous cowboys out there with that piece of paper. I'm surprised that there have been no deaths yet.
Been getting repetitive Facebook adverts from Anya Culling now promoting 'Green chef'
It appears to be one of those companies who sends out boxes of ingredients for people too stupid/lazy to shop or cook for themselves at a huge mark up.
"I cut my marathon time by two hours, and now I'm an elite marathon runner. I know how important it is to get the right nutrition to fuel my training. With Green Chef it's easy, I can swap from preferences including High Protein, Flexitarian depending on my program. Save on nutritionist-approved recipe boxes now using my discount code"
The phrase 'elite' is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that text. Gotta love these predatory marketing campaigns. Maybe I need to sign up to this box to cut 2 hours from my marathon time too ;-)

Is 2:34 considered elite? That's apparently her marathon pb,. according to her Instagram. And yes, her Instagram bio mentions that she is an Elite.

Interestingly, she has elite in her bio; recently, I've seen several posts like, "I finished 6th in the non-elite race". Former elite runner, working my way back would be more apt.
I'd say she was elite, hence the elite London start (some time ago), and seems to be working her way back based on her recent excellent marathon.
I don't mind Anya; however, she seems to put dull, unoriginal marathon sound bytes and cliches out on socials. Saying things like "Run the first 10 miles with your brain. Run the second 10 miles with your legs. And run the last 10k heart." Perhaps the brands give her a script; however, she never seems to say anything original.

I guess it's tough because for some of her gigs she needs the authority of the 'elite marathon runner', but her recent performances at the distance (pre London this year) range 2:44-2:58 which are decidedly club standard rather than elite so she needs the X non elite claims to try and smooth over that metaphorical crack. Even at 2:34-36 I think to describe yourself as elite is a slight stretch when these are performances that full time workers are putting out.
I suppose the dull, unoriginal aspect is reflective of her (lack of) actual experience running and coaching. Her knowledge building under bester was, imo, probably limited by being in his shadow - literally in terms of being paced. She hasn't gained the knowledge of running marathons that someone running 2:34 under their own steam has. I don't think she's really got that much coaching knowledge or experience either, and I don't think that it's required or being built at Runna
Man I hope Jake (RTJ) is all good. He's a great guy and not even in his peak yet, doesnt deserve a health scare like this
Had he already travelled to Copenhagen?
Yep. He's in hospital there. He'd hoped to still do the marathon the day before while in a hospital bed (which probably won't come as a huge surprise!)
Not going to lie, after watching Ben is Running last video if Asics had offered me the trip to Tokyo I wouldn't have said No. Not jealous as I'm not prepared to put the hard work in to build a Youtube channel.
I am off to Travelodge in Birkenhead tomorrow through my job and will run around New Brighton which will be good. Different levels but I'm not complaining.
I think Ben is Running comes across OK. not got the natural humour of a MARM but likeable enough.
The issue with Ben and others who use their partners as cameramen/women is they are forever stuck, unable to leave and unable to have marriage with kids.
Forever the boyfriend or girlfriend being a lacky.
